Shortly after I got the V2 there was an on line update but none available since..
As-per my previous comment. All subsequent V2 updates are on the beta feed only so far.

The most recent beta firmware for the V2 is 19.3.20190809. This contains the most recent picon updates, including the SBS World Movies picon and the picon for openshop.

Switching your software feed to a live beta

The instructions for enabling the beta feed don't require your PVR to be networked. You can use the same USB thumb drive to hold the beta feed enabler script as you use for firmware updates. You can enable the beta feeds without having to remove the update files from the USB drive, and you can do firmware updates from the drive without having to remove the beta feed updater script from the drive.

If you're running the beta firmware on any model other than a V2, then you don't need to enable the beta feed for the current betas. Those models are already set up to fetch beta updates.

The update to 20190809 is quite large: 230+ packages. It will suggest that ou do the update from USB, but there is no USB update available for 20190809, so if you want 20190809, you need to proceed with the online update.

There is a USB update to 20190802, which also includes the latest picon changes. But updating from that to 20190809 is still 230+ packages.

Hi,

Here's Coffs Harbour:

Sorry, I've only just got around to looking at it. Unfortunately, it only seems to have Nine's services:
9Gem Mid North Coast
9Go! Mid North Coast

Nine Mid North Coast

Are you able to do another scan, or have you moved on?

Forgot we had reception issues at Darlington Beach with the U4 , and Nine was missing from initial scan. Did another scan of just Nine after turning the antenna a bit. Added Nine OK, but reception was poor. ABC, SBS & 7 were fine. TV was perfect on all. :(

We have moved, but only about 100km south, still receive Coffs, so will do a full scan later. U4 perfect here. Even had Trial Bay Gaol between us and the transmitter for a few days (no, the Gaol didn't move, we did). Currently have the antenna flat on the roof due to high winds, still have good signal.

Thanks, got it, and it looks good.

Yes, your issue is the down side of using the Last Scanned bouquet. It really is what it says on the can. But it's the only bouquet that has both TV and radio services in one place.

I'm working on getting picon setups for the new ABC radio services. I think I'll be able to auto-generate the necessary service information.

I've had a look at Jasmeet_181's logos for all the services, and they all seem good to use, except for the ABC KIDS Listen one, which seems to be too tall an aspect ratio for the Beyonwiz picons.

Jasmeet_181's logo is in https://github.com/Jasmeet181/mediaport ... Listen.svg.

I've made a wider one where I've made the ABC squiggle the same height as the kids "fruit & bugs" icons and placed it to the left of those icons and moved the "listen" text beside the "KIDS" text, so that it reads "KIDS listen" across the bottom.

I'll make up & post picon-sizes images tomorrow so people can compare.

I'm not entirely happy with either arrangement: suggestions welcome.

These are picons (screen and T4 front panel) made from Jasmeet_181's ABC KIDS Listen logo:

and here are my variants:

My versions turned out less bad than I'd feared, but I'd still be interested in hearing any suggestions for improvements.

Hi Prl,

I think your variant works quite well. The original would be too small to be useful.

Ian.

Here is a test version of the picon setup that includes updates for Coffs Harbour and Rockhampton (thanks to dRdoS7 & adoxa), and includes picon setups for the new ABC radio services (thanks to Jasmeet_181 for the original logos). You'll need to re-scan (if you haven't already done so) to see the new radio services.

The install/uninstall instructions assume that you know how to copy files onto your T series PVR and how to connect to and use its command-line interface.

Making mistakes in doing the install or uninstall may affect the stability of the PVR. If you mess things up, re-install the firmware from USB.

You need to follow the uninstall steps below before doing any online firmware update!

Assuming you're doing this on a T4, copy both attached files to root ("/") on the T4 (if they're not already there), then log in to the T4 and:

Code: Select all

cd /
mv picon picon.bak
mv piconlcd piconlcd.bak
tar xf maskPicons-2019-09-07.tgz
tar xf lcdPicons-2019-09-07.tgz
Then restart the T4 GUI.

If you use "xvf" instead of "xf" in the tar commands it will print out the file names as they extract. There will be a lot of them, about 500 for each command. I don't usually bother.

To go back to the original picons, log into the T4 and:

Code: Select all

cd /
rm -r picon maskPicons-2019-09-07.tgz
rm -r piconlcd lcdPicons-2019-09-07.tgz
mv picon.bak picon
mv piconlcd.bak piconlcd
Then restart the T4 GUI.

If you're testing on something other than a T4, leave out all the commands with "lcd" in them, and don't bother downloading lcdPicons-2019-09-07.tgz and copying it to the box. It doesn't matter if you do change them, but they won't have any effect - they're the picon setup for the T4's OLED graphical front panel.

Please let me know if there are any problems. If nothing's been reported in a few days, I'll push the changes to the picon repository (the changes for Coffs Harbour and Rockhampton are already there).

Thanks in advance to everyone who tries it out!

Thanks prl et al, the picons are working fine for the new ABC radio services here in Sydney/T4. Nothing appears to have been broken either. :)

I think I may have asked this before in the past, not sure. I see the picon update being offered, but on completion "0 packages were installed". I did revert the picon directories from the alpha back to original beforehand and rebooted. Unfortunately the T4 serial o/p offers no reason why the update has not worked. Any ideas or anything else I could check? TIA.

I don't see anything available -

Code: Select all

{668}< 32509.927> [OnlineVersionCheck] 0 updates available

Perhaps you are getting this from IanSav's feed server.
What date do you have for the picon directories? I have -

Code: Select all

root@beyonwizt4:/# ls -ld picon*
drwxr-xr-x 3 1000 1000 124328 Aug 4 08:09 picon

What version do you currently have installed, and what version does it offer?

Code: Select all

root@beyonwizt4:/# opkg list *picons*
enigma2-plugin-picons-tv-australia - 3.0+git308+64e0c72-r2.0 - Australian Free To Air TV Picons
root@beyonwizt4:/#
root@beyonwizt4:/# opkg list-upgradable
root@beyonwizt4:/#
There does appear to be a new picons package in Ian's feed -
Package: enigma2-plugin-picons-tv-australia
Filename: enigma2-plugin-picons-tv-australia_3.0+git317+1a1d5dd-r1_all.ipk

What happens if you download it and install (via USB or via File Commander)?

Sorry for the difficulties you are experiencing with this new update.

Most current and future update packages generated by OpenViX are being generated using a new packager that is not currently supported on the Beyonwiz image. To fix this problem you need to install the "xz" utilities package onto your Beyonwiz box. To do this please access the shell prompt and enter the following command: opkg install xz

Once this command completes you should be able to correctly install the new picon package from both the command line and the Beyonwiz UI.

Please let me know if you continue to experience any difficulties.

Regards,
Ian.

The problem will probably now resolve itself, at least for people on the beta feed. An online upgrade to firmware 20190913 became available overnight. It contains the latest picon setup.

However, the update is a large one (321 packages on my test V2), and triggers the "This is a large update. Consider a full USB update instead." warning. However, at the moment there is no USB upgrade available for 20190913.

Slightly confused - I thought (for my U4) I didn't need to be on the beta feed at the moment to get updates because the whole 19.3 branch was effectively "beta", I've been getting the last few OK without the beta feed enabled and currently sitting on 20190818.
Or has something changed. It's hard to keep up! :-)

Anyway, just did a check for updates and no 20190913 was available for me at least yet ...

For the V2 only, it needs to be on the beta feed to receive the updates.
For the T/U-series, at the moment both the 19.3-series production and beta feeds are being updated.

Yes, no update yet for T4 nor U4 when I checked.

Thanks, that was my understanding - but thought I'd lost the plot (yet again) or missed something along the line ...
I guess the "large" update is still coming then for the T/U series boxes ...

Thanks, that has fixed it. Do you know if xz will be included in future BW firmware? I just know I will forget to install this each time I flash... :?

Alternatively, could xz be added to the dependencies in IanSav's picons package?

I never considered that as an option. I was hoping that Beyonwiz would have started catching up to all the other images by now. Perhaps xz should be added to the base Beyonwiz image?

While I can add the dependency I wonder if doing so might have other, potentially negative, implications. Do you have any thoughts about potential risks?

Ian.

In systems that have xz pre-installed, it should be installed already, though the dependency might pull in a newer version than the pre-installed one.

On systems where it isn't pre-installed, it shouldn't have any different effect from manually installing it before doing the picon update.

I thought it was a given that if a package has dependencies, they need to be specified. The only real trick comes from defining and bounding the required versions.
Logitech Harmony Ultimate+Elite RCs
Beyonwiz T2/3/U4/V2, DP-S1 PVRs
Denon AVR-X3400h, LG OLED65C7T TV
QNAP TS-410 NAS, Centos File Server (Hosted under KVM)
Ubiquiti UniFi Managed LAN/WLAN, Draytek Vigor130/Asus RT-AC86U Internet

This is not a specific dependency of the picon package. It reflects a deficiency of the older Beyonwiz firmware environment.

Exactly. It's a suggested hack.

Thanks! I've added the changes to the picon repository. They should be in the next beta release.

The scan data I had for Hobart was quite old (2016), and the part of the scripts that create the picon setup that tries tobring old data up to date wasn't producing the all the links correctly for Hobart (and I have no way of testing).

The update should now give you correct picons on 7, 7HD, 9HD, 9Life, GOLD, SBN, Sky News on WIN, TVSN, WIN BOLD, WIN HD & WIN PEACH.

Not sure if this helps but attached is the getservices for the northern Gold Coast.

I think it will help, especially for you. For example, you have 9Gem HD on 1012:441:475 (ONID:TSID:SID) -

Code: Select all

<e2servicereference>1:0:19:475:441:1012:EEEE0000:0:0:0:</e2servicereference>
<e2servicename>9Gem HD Gold Coast</e2servicename>
This isn't in the current picons package, at least I couldn't find any 1012:441 (ONID:TSID Nine Network) services.

Yes, some of the code that tries to fill in data that I don't have (usually because the scan files I have are older than many of the changes to channel lineup) don't work in all cases where they should.

Draadnor's data adds picon setup for a bunch of services with ONID 1012, TSID 411 (Nine Gold Coast channels):
Channel 9 Gold Coast
9Gem Gold Coast
9Gem HD Gold Coast
9Go! Gold Coast
9HD Gold Coast
9Life Gold Coast

Thanks! :)

The Gold Coast updates are in the repository. They should appear in the next firmware update.

From my quick check, the firmware appears to have all of the ABC and SBS services for your broadcast market.
It appears to be missing these services though -
Nine - Aspire, 9Life, 9HD Bendigo (but has this picon via fallback to service type 1 though), SBN
PRIME7 - 7flix, PRIME7 HD Bendigo
WIN - GOLD, Sky News on WIN, WIN HD Bendigo (but has via fallback to service type 1 though)
Is this correct?

The most recent proper scan data I have for Bendigo dates from July 2016. In July 2019, I hand-modified the scan data to add Nine Bendigo, 9HD Bendigo & 9Life, and do some renaming so that picons for some of the other channels affected by the switchover of the broadcast arrangements for the regionals.

In the switchover, SCA carried Nine regional affiliates instead of Ten regional affiliates, and WIN carried Ten regional affiliates instead of Nine regional affiliates.

The modifications were by hand and may have errors, but if you are running firmware more recent than 20190712 you should have those changes.

I'll incorporate the new Bendigo scan data (thanks, driva) in the picon setups. That should fix any remaining problems.

However, the new picon setup that I prepared in January to cover the change from 7food network to 7mate HD has not yet been released. Any other changes I make will also need to wait for the next firmware release.

I didn't check them thoroughly enough, some of the NINE and WIN services are there as service type 0x01 whereas the scan has them as 0x16 or 0x19.
