Recording up to 5 channels on my T2?
Recording up to 5 channels on my T2?
For the first time for a very long time (if ever) I have 6 programmes that I wish to watch tonight. As I rarely record more than 2 channels simultaneously I was wondering if my T2 can copy.
My recording schedule for tonight goes like this:
SBS Viceland 18.10 to 19.05pm
ABCTV HD 19.00 to 22.02pm
ABC News 19.03 to 20.00pm
9HD Brisbane 6.60 to 22.00pm
9 Gem 6.00 to 20.45pm
SBSOne HD 7.30 to 20.30pm
So there would be 5 overlapping programmes. Is this possible please or will have I to make a decision to dumb one or more?

If the T2 has three tuners you will be fine.
If you do not have a USB tuner then you will need to drop one of the services. Either 9, SBS or ABC will have to go.

Re: Recording up to 5 channels on my T2?
The key limitation is that the number of different broadcasters you want to record from needs to be no more than the number of tuners.
So your 5 recordings (I make it a maximum of 6 simultaneous recordings, not 5, with all 6 running between 19:03 and 19:05) are on SBS Viceland, SBS One, ABCTV HD, ABC News, 9HD Brisbane, 9 Gem.
But that's only three different broadcasters, ABC, SBS and Nine, so 3 tuners is enough.
Here's an example of just 4 recordings that won't all be possible on a 3-tuner T2:
ABCTV HD 20:00-21:00
SBS One HD 20:00-21:00
9HD 20:00-21:00
7HD 20:00-21:00
That's 4 different broadcasters (ABC, SBS, Nine and Seven), so they can't all be recorded on a 3-tuner T2.
The T2 packaging says that it can record up to 8 simultaneous recordings, but that's only if there are enough tuners to support the number of different broadcasters you are recording from.

If you just set the timers, the T2 will tell you if it doesn't have enough tuners when you try to save the timer
The T2 doesn't really care about timers overlapping, unless you had something like 16 all happening at once.

True, but it can be useful to know why 6 simultaneous recordings were OK on one occasion, but 4 simultaneous recordings couldn't be made on another occasion.

Re: Recording up to 5 channels on my T2?
Thanks all for your prompt replies. I have three tuners so I am up and running.
I did wonder if the BZ was clever enough to tell me if I had too many recordings (from too many broadcasters that is). What a great machine it is. Its probably getting long in the tooth by now but for me it has been a great work horse over the years. When did it first appear?

I think it was in late 2015, or early 2016.Maindee wrote: ↑Fri Feb 19, 2021 12:35I did wonder if the BZ was clever enough to tell me if I had too many recordings (from too many broadcasters that is). It's a shame that the chips are no longer manufactured and supported, but the box itself is still well and truly capable of everything it needs to do for FTA recording.
The T2 and T4 in particular are a couple of the best units I reckon.
The current V2 is very powerful and has a lot of potential, but does still need a bit more time for the software to mature I think.
