Online and BW EPG differences
I have used IceTV for some time and the Ice Online guide is different from the BW EPG guide. There is a movie coming up on ABC called ?Moulin Rouge?
In the BW EPG you get the following:
Movie: Moulin Rouge
The story of a crippled artist who forgets his worries at the Moulin Rouge. He is delighted to meet Marie and the two become lovers, but he soon learns she is being unfaithful.
In the Ice Online Guide you get:
Movie: Moulin Rouge (1952)
The story of a crippled artist who forgets his worries at the Moulin Rouge. He is delighted to meet Marie and the two become lovers, but he soon learns she is being unfaithful. Directed by John Huston . Zas Zas Gabor.
Unless this is only a problem for me, IceTV are providing a cut down version of the program guide for PVR?s. ICE consistently removes the year of release, actor and director information. This means if I want to find out which version of a movie is being run, I must go on line each time or go back to the Green Guide.
Does anybody else think that BW owners should be provided with the full EPG not just a subset?

You are perhaps asking at the wrong place, but then again, I sense ICE will say "we provide all that meta-data in our guide information, and it is up to the PVR manufacturer about how they want to use it". In the case of EPG_uploader for the Topfield 5K (and the various ways people fed that TAP) we just tended to append all the metadata to the extended event description (since the Toppy didn't support the full EIT standards which allows various sub-categories in the extended event).

Thanks for the comment.
I did ask this question of Ice but they didn?t respond. For a few months the release year was being displayed in the BW EPG but it now seems to have disappeared.
I?m at a loss to understand why ICE/BW would not send/display the full EPG data.
I don?t understand your comments about the Toppy. Are you saying that the full data is displayed?

He's saying that ICE do send the full data. However BeyonWiz PVRs don't choose to show it (When in ICE mode). So your issue is more with BW than with ICE. Log on to the ICE web guide and you should see:Raid wrote:I don?t understand your comments about the Toppy. Are you saying that the full data is displayed?

This is what Russell at IceTV said about the director/actor/year information when it was added to the IceTV database.
However, it appears that the information isn't getting to the Beyonwiz for some reason. It seems that either it's not being appended to the synopsis as it should be (if the Beyonwiz can't handle the additional fields), it's being sent as additional fields, but not displayed, or it's not being sent at all.
And to be fair to Raid about perhaps posting in the wrong forum about this problem, he posted about it in the IceTV forum over a year ago, and there was no reply from anyone.

After just installing 350 and clearing the EPG cache, the ICE EPG is still the same .

Posting an example from a few days out, so people can check their view of the EPG against yours, would be handy.Raid wrote:Peterpeteru wrote:It's been fixed for some time now - at least in the beta firmware.

The first 3 are from the wiz EPG showin and the last the ICE EPG:
The movie name without the release year.
The top of the detail data
The bottom of the detail data with the Director and actors
There is the ICE screen (sorry about the quality) with all of the missing data.

That's what I see, too. I think that when IceTV Remote was revamped to IceTV Interactive, things like date and cast were moved out of the description into separate metadata items. The Beyonwiz doesn't ask for them or doesn't use them. I'm pretty sure there's capacity fro them in PIMP.

I originally posted this on the ICE Forum and got no reply.
As Peter U stated this is done deliberately (reduced data size), I was hoping that BW would ask for the complete data feed in a future release. Only BW will know if it?s possible or if the unit can take that much data.
Can we have it on the wish list?

Hi Raid,
PeterU didn't say that the crash issue was specifically for Beyonwiz units. Some time ago Beyonwiz actually increased the available buffer space for EPG entries.
While this wish could be added to the Beyonwiz wish lists I suspect that it is a wish over which Beyonwiz has *no* control. The item is likely to stay there until IceTV do something about it. This really should be directed to IceTV.
Regards,
Ian.

I did read peteru's post. It is by design, that could be for all PVR's or just for BW's units, I don't know. IceTV may already offer a full feed service to other PVR makers, I don't know.peteru wrote:

If BW feel that this is a good idea and their units can support the additional data requirements, they would contact IceTV.
Anyway that's how I see it.

Just to clear up some confusion here.
We do not send down a cut-down service to any PVR's, they all have access to the same information.
This has nothing to do with reduced data size.
The additional metadata has never been sent as part of the description, it has always been sent in seperate fields so that PVR's can display where they choose.

Hi Daniel,
Regards,
Ian.
Could you offer an option to add some of this data to the end of the description field for those units that don't decode all the separate fields. Perhaps offer the list of additional option fields available each shown with a check-box so users can tick what items they want appended to the description field. The default would be to leave only the description in the description field as is the case now.danielicetv wrote:Just to clear up some confusion here.

Russell at IceTV seems to imply in his IceTV Forum post (which I cited early in this topic), that where the box doesn't support the use of the extra metadata, it's added to the description text, or can be:
Russell at IceTV on IceTV Forum wrote:For PVRs that don't support the separate fields in the guide data (Topfield, DigiTV, etc.) this information will continue to be shown at the end of the description, when there's room for it (PVRs have different limits on how much of the description they'll show, but we try to get as much in there as we can).
