T4 factory reset won’t work

Post by Gryffun » Wed Oct 12, 2022 11:08

My channel EPG stopped displaying all ABC channels in both the full and favourites list last night, so some auto timer programs didn’t record.

I tried switching off the box at the back, but those channels still would not show up in EPG - though they still play those channels to watch.

Then I did a factory reset…

I got as far as select time zone region - which highlights australia but now the remote OK button doesn’t work and I cannot proceed.

I changed the remote batteries too. No joy.

So now I cannot watch TV at all.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Factory reset seems to cause more problems than it cures. Are you using the original remote on the standard codeset? I've had the problem of using an alternative remote and codeset and not being able to complete setup.

A little tip for next time.
If you find the EPG refuses to populate partially or fully, it may mean that the EPG data file is corrupted.
The easy way to fix this is to delete the EPG data file, which can be achieved by switching your EPG to use IceTV, and then back to regular FTA.

I assume the arrow buttons (ie. none of the buttons) are working at this point either?

Have you tried using the buttons on the T4's front panel? (BTW title of the thread says T4, but do you mean U4?)

It does sound as if paul_oz53 is on the right track here with the remote control codes.
Can you locate your original U4 remote control? Your previous posts mentioned that it was getting sticky buttons, but it may get you out of a jam if still available,

Thanks for responding MrQuade and paul_oz53

It is a U4 - sorry for that mistake.

I have replaced the original remote control and no longer have it as it wasn’t working properly anymore.

So, none of the buttons on the replacement remote have any effect and there are no buttons on the front of the U4.

Seems I’m in quite a pickle.

Here are photos of the box and the remote though no news for you both I’m sure.

That's the "T3" remote.

If your U4 is networked, then you can use OpenWebif to control it.

Thanks Grumpy_Geoff. I’m not really sure what you mean by networked but if that means connected to the internet, no my U4 isn’t networked so I’m still not sure how to proceed to watch and record TV again.

If your U4 is networked, then you can use OpenWebif to control it.

As Grumpy_Geoff says, use the virtual remote on Openwebif to complete the setup and change the remote setting to T3. All should be good then.

You need to connect it by ethernet cable to a network. Then open a browser on a PC, laptop, phone or tablet on the same network. Type BeyonwizU4 into the address bar and press enter.

If all is well, Openwebif will appear. Use the remote at the left of screen to complete the setup. To see the U4 output, tick the screen shot box. Also set the update box under the picture to automatically update. I use 3 seconds.

Go to Menu/Setup/System/Remote Control settings and select T3. Save your settings. Job done.
