Unable to check for updates
Unable to check for updates
Hi all,
I have a T4 running 17.5 200181003 (beta).
Last night, around 17:30 and today around 06:00 I attempted to check for firmware updates.
The result is a report that the T4 is not connected to the internet.
I restarted the network, same result.
I restarted the beyonwiz, same result.
Checking the network information page I can see the the internt light is green, as is the LAN light.
Looking at the logs for IceTV shows that it is updating fine.
I have no difficulties connecting to the OpenWebif from a web server on my local network.
I have no firewall rules in place on the router, and certainly none that have changed in the last year.
Regardless I have rebooted the router and the problem persists.
Anyone have any clue what I am doing wrong, or is the beyonwiz site not responding at the moment?
Thanking all in advance.

Re: Unable to check for updates
Hi Mark,
System OE: OE-Alliance 4.1
Firmware version: beyonwiz 17.5.20180417 (17.5-477-g41eefa7)
Kernel / Drivers: 4.9.51 / 180411-16.4
I have exactly the same problem
I can view YouTube and SHOUTcast through the U4
when I try to download plugins it defaults to empty screen
I tried to install local extensions from USB and I get error (done - installed, upgraded,or removed 0 packages (with 1 error, no other information is provided
online updates I get u4 not connected to internet, Green link light and network test all OK
I have tried a fresh install of firmware from USB with and without restoring setting as with your situation nothing changed with hardware/software for months just decided to stop working
have you find a solution any help would be appreciated
regards
Steve

Re: Unable to check for updates
It might be something to do with the new secure connections that have been implemented on the forums.
I'm not sure if/how the two systems might be linked, but seeing as the forums received a security upgrade, the updates feed may have received a similar one.
PeterU should be able to confirm/deny.
Either way, the error doesn't actually mean that the Wiz can't connect to the Internet clearly. It just means that it failed to contact the Beyonwiz update feed.

I'm seeing the same thing.
The "Your Beyonwiz xx is not connected to the Internet..." error message is assuming far too much about what the cause is.
If I run a similar wget command on my Mac, which is connected to the Internet, because I'm using it to post this, I get:
Which looks like a DNS error to me.
E.g:
The "official" feeds site is also not on DNS at the moment:

Re: Unable to check for updates
Ok, thanks.
This is not local to me, but an issue with the servers.
I figured that the message meant that the T4 could not get to some site, but I was unaware of which site.
beta.beyonwiz.org
This is not visible, nor resolvable for me as an address.
Sooo, I guess this will get sorted out in time?

Re: Unable to check for updates
Of course it will. Even if you or any other user hadn't noticed this, the second that PeterU tries to update the beta feed with a new update, we would have seend the issue. In other words, you aren't missing out on any updates, since no updates can actually be posted till it is fixed .

Re: Unable to check for updates
The person who owns the rego for the beyonwiz.org domain has been notified. It expired earlier this week. It'll probably take a few days to process the payment and get it back online.
On the other hand, if the hosting has been cancelled as well, we're up the $h?t* creek.

Hi,
We all get SPAM that our domains are expiring and need to be renewed. Once in a while the messages aren't SPAM.

Ian.

Re: Unable to check for updates
On my T2 I haven't had any beta updates for over a week I think.... Every time I go to check for an update it says there is a background update check in progress, try again In a few mins
Related issue or just problems at my end?

My T4 kept saying the same thing, but a reboot "unstuck" it . No big deal

Re: Unable to check for updates
Quick, slightly off topic question. Is the T series script to enable beta test updates applicable to the U4?

Re: Unable to check for updates
Thanks, I was very active in the DP-S1 beta programme a "few" years back, so am keen to get on board to test and improve my new U4.

Re: Unable to check for updates
The public beta has quite a few bug fixes and other improvements over the official release.

Re: Unable to check for updates
Hi,
Given that few changes are being accepted into the Beyonwiz build we really should make a recent beta an official release so that everyone can feel free to step up to the fixes and features available. The recent betas are quite stable.
Regards,
Ian.

Re: Unable to check for updates
The last changes accepted into the Beyonwiz code were on 31 Oct (only about 2 weeks ago). I haven't done much work on the code recently because I've been busy with other things, but I just submitted two bug fixes for FileCommander yesterday, and I have another one in the pipeline. I've also just posted a query about the way a third fix related to FileCommander should be done to the OpenPLi forum.
However, I do think that an official release is long overdue.
