For me in Melbourne, I haven't done a rescan but only Channel 10 services have all renamed. The rest have stayed the same and the on screen logos are on changed.

And just for fun, the regional logos for Boss and Peach are for WIN Boss and WIN Peach.

Is 7food network currently showing a promo?
There are no data streams allocated to the 7food network service in Melbourne.

I can't see any announcements for 7food network to be carried on Prime. I guess it will be "later. or not at all".

It looks like it will be on Seven Queensland, though.

Just a heads up that SBS Food is starting this Saturday, at least in Melbourne.

They sent out an email with this link

Yes it is, but it's the current logo for that service on "CHANNEL 33", it's not an old one. It'll become old on Saturday

You are either splitting hairs or missing the point that SBS sent out an email to announce the start of the new service on Saturday so not too much to expect them to use the new logo on the web page as they did in the email. (and yes I saw the  ) :D

Hi,

SBS Are adding a new channel on 1st July, 2019.

SBS World Movies will be coming to LCN 32 as a HD service. It will replace the SD version of SBS VICELAND.

Ian.

Thanks Ian. The press release doesn't seem to have any logo for the new channel. There's a "tentative" SBS World Movies logo on Logopedia, but I have no idea how tentative it is.

I'm going to be away for much of June, but I should have time after I get back to do a new picons set with the SBS World Movies logo in time for the launch.

An AdNews item uses the same logo as is on Logopedia, and so does the SBS promo clip in the article.

It's a very poor aspect ratio for turning into Beyonwiz picons, even too wide for a good T4 front panel picon.

Hi there

I will be away mid June to the end of July. As such I won't be able to carry out a manual channel re-scan when the new SBS channel commences operation. Will this cause any problems if I try to record whilst away? I use IceTV and have a BW U4 device.

Cheers

If SBS doesn't change the stream identifiers from the old channel to the new one (and it's fairly likely that they won't), then any World Movies recordings you make via IceTV will be recorded correctly. Until you re-scan, they may show up in the recording information panel in the media selection screen as being made on Viceland, but if they do, they should be automagically changed to World Movies when you rescan.

None of the underlying mechanisms rely on the channel name (or on the LCN, for that matter).

SBS have stopped programming on SBS Viceland SD service (LCN 32).
You'll need to make changes if you've restricted your SBS Viceland programming to the SD service (LCN 32) only, because as of today LCN 32 is just a looped promo in (at least) Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney.

Anyone with IceTV series set as SD only or prefer SD will be stuffed, as IceTV haven't updated their SBS Viceland SD/LCN 32 guide.
If you're using AutoTimers, check the service references used either as a specific service or as a bouquet restriction.

From SBS website, updated today:
"How to keep watching SBS VICELAND from 18 June 2019
Viewers who have accessed SBS VICELAND on channel 32 will now need to switch over to channel 31 in order to continue watching the channel."

It’s probably not as bad as it could be because SBS have had a permanent message up saying that the move was occurring today for over a week. It just caught me by surprise that icetv were oblivious to it.

Regional areas may get the promotional loop today, users in that thread from Broken Hill, Canberra, Illawarra, regional WA and the Sunshine Coast say that they didn't have any changes yesterday.

There's also a report of 9Gem HD launching in Darwin on the 14th, replacing Your Money.

Regarding picons. I am curious why they have to be updated on the BW device. Looking at https://yuvu.tv/frequently-asked-questions/ they indicate that the channel-logo is part of the metadata of the EPG feed. I’m just curious if anyone has the time or can point me to where it’s already been answered.

I don't think the FTA EPG has the service logos.

YuVu seem to be a B2B version of IceTV. Here are the IceTV EPG service entries for 9Gem in Perth as received on an IceTV-enabled Wiz, you'll see the logo used for the SD and HD versions is the same: http://images.icetv.com.au/channels/gem-v3.png

Code: Select all

,{"id":"96","name":"9Gem","url":"","lcn":"92","dvb_triplets":[{"original_network_id":"4114","transport_stream_id":"1120","service_id":"1127","lcn":"92","frequency":"0"}],"icon":{"src":"http://images.icetv.com.au/channels/gem-v3.png","width":"0","height":"0"}}
,{"id":"2752","name":"9Gem HD","url":"","lcn":"95","dvb_triplets":[{"original_network_id":"4114","transport_stream_id":"1120","service_id":"1125","lcn":"95","frequency":"0"}],"icon":{"src":"http://images.icetv.com.au/channels/gem-v3.png","width":"0","height":"0"}}

No, they're not used. The set in the firmware is used, whether FTA or IceTV is the EPG source.

Thanks for confirming. So I guess that’s my question. Why aren’t the FTA or in my case I’ve TV ones used? That would save having to manually update the picon file if I’ve got the process right.

There are no logos sent in the live tv feed and ice tv doesn't send any logo data either. The only source of logos that is available to the Wiz agree the icons that the programmers put in the firmware.

That Yuvu link you posted is a completely different EPG data source to the one that the Wiz gets its EPG data from.

As I previously stated -
Grumpy_Geoff wrote:

I don't think the FTA EPG has the service logos.

As I showed with the Gem example, the IceTV icons would be deficient for some services - since the image is identical, how can one tell the difference between the SD and HD services if one didn't have the service name nor LCN showing in the EPG (for example)?

Additionally, the icons/logos/picons are static images stored on the PVR, whereas the IceTV service list is dynamic in nature, and doesn't actually include the image; just a link to it. Each time the IceTV EPG is fetched, each service image would have to be fetched and compared with the existing entry to see if the EPG version should be stored as a file - no way José :)
Trial_Master wrote: That would save having to manually update the picon file if I’ve got the process right.

If you wait for the firmware update that contains the updated picons, then there's no manual effort required.
I'm guessing IanSav will build (or arrange a build of) the 'picons-tv-australia' file and host it on his feed server, as he did recently (04-Jun) so if you use that feed then there may not be a need to wait for the new firmware.
The manual update method is based on someone extracting the ipk file name for the picons update (either from the beta f/w feed or IanSav's feed update) and posting the plugin URL for you (or anyone) to download it and apply it.

Of course, we need to wait for the new picons to be created, prl stated he'd get to it when he returned.

The Wiz can get its EPG from there as it's just IceTV under a different banner -

Ahh right! I was wondering who the heck this crowd was. Seemed like an odd business to be starting fresh in a market already serviced by IceTV and with FTA gradually losing relevance to streaming services.

All credit must be given to Prl who curates and assembles the picon packages for Australia. (His efforts are now used internationally.) When Prl returns from holidays I am sure he will produce an update that I can then serve on my feed server.

Thanks for the detailed response Geoff. As always you guys are super helpful and I always learn new stuff here in this community. I’m on IanSav’s feed which is a great service for updates like these between firmwares.
All credit must be given to Prl who curates and assembles the picon packages for Australia. (His efforts are now used internationally.) When Prl returns from holidays I am sure he will produce an update that I can then serve on my feed server.

Thanks.

That will be happening in the next couple of days (still processing jet lag) :(

To add to the replies to Trial_Master, if there was a simpler way of managing the picons for the Beyonwiz firmware, I'd already be doing it. The current system is way too Heath Robinson for my liking.

As Grumpy_Geoff says, IceTV's feed does have picons, but I haven't investigated them, because getting them via the feed will only work for people with an IceTV subscription, and they only cover channels that IceTV has EPGs for. I would only make copies of them with IceTV's permission. That may or may not be possible. It would depend on their willingness to share and on what arrangements they have with whoever supplies them with picons. They already help me with some of the other details when channel arrangements change. They seem to have better contacts with the broadcasters than I do (which wouldn't be hard).

Thanks Peter for all you do for the community. I didn’t realise you had to do so much manual work.

If I’m able to help out the community in anyway if I can ease some burden from you. You guys have always been very helpful.

Welcome back too.

There's not usually all that much manual work now beyond collecting the scan data and finding and scaling the picon images. Simple channel name changes (like Viceland HD->World Movies and Your Money->9Gem HD) just require edits to a table in one of the scripts and don't need new scan data. Jasmeet_181's logo collection is a great resource for picon images, especially since he has most of them as SVG images, which is optimal for scaling and creating masked images.

Thanks for the offer, but the main input I need is scan data when channels with new broadcast parameters pop up. If you are in an area where I don't have a regular contributor, that would help.

I’m in Brisbane currently, that may change to Tamworth but either way I’m happy to provide scan data whenever you require.

The Australian Shopping Network has signed a broadcast agreement with the Seven Network, that will see its openshop channel launch on Channel 75 on August 1.

The new channel will initially transmit to Australia’s five mainland capital cities and some regional Queensland markets, but has plans to expand across regional Australia in 2020.

re-scanned to find this has appeared on the Seven multiplex in Melbourne. Label is openshop - no LCN and no video at this stage
