SBS Changes - January 2009

Post by peteru » Thu Jan 29, 2009 21:13

SBS have changed a number of digital transmission parameters on 29 January 2009. This necessitates a rescan on most DTV receivers.

Rescanning the Beyonwiz is not good enough.

In order to get the channels cleaned up, you need to manually delete all SBS services. If you do not delete the old SBS services, you will end up with double LCN definitions, which will wreak havoc later on.

Deselect Fav. groups, then use LIST button to delete each individual SBS entry. Once you have deleted all SBS entries, do a manual scan on your local SBS frequency (Ch 34 in most places).

Another alternative is a Factory Reset followed by a full rescan.

It's ch29 in Melbourne.

I did a rescan in line with your post earlier tonight and it also seems to have cleared up problems I was having with recordings too.

SBS Australia Wide Digital Upgrade

As of yesterday, the 29th January 2009, SBS has upgraded their Digital services by installing state of the art equipment Australia wide. This new equipment enables SBS to increase the bandwidth (quality) of it's High Definition channel and provide a Free To Air 7 day Electronic Program Guide.

You will most likely need to delete all existing SBS channels in your channel list and rescan SBS.

The easiest way:

Delete all channels: - Setup > System > Initialize > Clear Service Information > Yes.
Scan all channels: - Setup . Config > Service Scan > Scanning Range = FULL > Start Scanning > then when scan reaches 100% press OK to dismiss and Exit to leave menu.

Note: This will also delete ALL timers and favourites (but all of your recordings on the Hard Drive will be OK).

Alternate way:

Delete only SBS channels: - You can delete just the SBS channels from the List (press the List button while viewing any channel live) then use the Yellow button to delete each SBS channel.
Scan only SBS, or all, channels: - Then either do an FULL Scan (where it will only update the new/missing channels) or do a PARTIAL Scan for the correct Channel number for your area.

Note: This will also delete all SBS timers and favourites (but all of your recordings on the Hard Drive will be OK).

See my post in response to the other copy of the Wiz Support announcement for the actual channel numbers for SBS Digital in the state and territory capitals apart from Sydney (where SBS Digital is on channel 34). In none of the other capitals is SBS Digital on channel 34.

I've checked the two SBS channels I use (3 & 30/SD & HD) without doing a re-scan. Receiving both clearly - is there any need/benefit of doing a re-scan of SBS?

PS I use the Brisbane (Mt Coot-tha) transmitters.

SBS has added some new LCNs, and I don't know whether SBS2/SBS Digital World News has moved to another LCN. You'll only pick up the changes in the LCNs if you rescan.

SBS Digital is on channel 36 on Brisbane Mt Coot-tha transmitters. That remains unchanged (otherwise you wouldn't be getting SBS at all).

I wish Wiz Support hadn't crossposted this!

Service data for SBS Canberra Black mountain (Channel 30) from /tmp/config/svc.dat.

Before rescan;

Code: Select all

30 543.500 MHz 7 MHz BW onid: 12802 tsid: 848 SBS
            PMT PCR video audio
LCN svcId PID PID PID PID
-------------------------------------------
  3 1025 849 161 161 81 TV T1( 0 4) T2( 1 4) SBS
 30 1024 848 102 102 103 TV T1( 1 4) T2( 9 8) SBS HD
 31 1032 851 161 161 81 TV T1(16 8) T2(10 4) SBS 2
 33 1026 850 162 162 83 TV T1(17 8) T2(11 4) SBS NEWS
 38 1027 862 201 0 201 Radio T1( 0 4) T2( 0 4) SBS RADIO 1
 39 1028 863 202 0 202 Radio T1( 1 4) T2( 1 4) SBS RADIO 2
After recan:

Code: Select all

30 543.500 MHz 7 MHz BW onid: 12802 tsid: 848 SBS
            PMT PCR video audio
LCN svcId PID PID PID PID
-------------------------------------------
  3 1025 849 161 161 81 TV T1( 1 4) T2( 1 4) SBS
 30 1024 853 102 102 103 TV T1( 9 8) T2( 9 8) SBS HD
 32 1026 850 162 162 83 TV T1(10 4) T2(10 4) SBS 2
 33 1032 851 161 161 81 TV T1(11 4) T2(11 4) SBS 3
 34 1033 852 161 161 81 TV T1(12 8) T2(12 8) SBS 4
 38 1027 862 201 0 201 Radio T1( 0 4) T2( 0 4) SBS Radio 1
 39 1028 863 202 0 202 Radio T1( 1 4) T2( 1 4) SBS Radio 2
SBS and SBS HD look unchanged (T1 and T2 are tuner parameters, I think), as to the two radio services. The rest of the services have been juggled around.

I lost all my SBS entries in Favorites and all my SBS timers in the rescan.

The PMT changed though. This must have been as per their description about some SD STBs choosing the lower numbered HD in the past and having probs? I didn't delete any channels and rescanned for the hell of it, and have two SBS HD channels now (both LCN30).

I though I'd be clever and only deleted SBS 2, SBS World news and SBS HD (kept SBS to save my SBS timers). After a partial scan I ended up with two SBSes on LCN 3.
