No Sound via SBS HD Channels - T4

Post by DoogaT4 » Thu Apr 23, 2020 17:16

Hi Folks,

Over the last few days I've noticed that I have no sound coming through on the SBS HD channels from my Beyonwiz T4. All other HD channels from all other networks work fine.

I have a T4 going to a Sony STRN1080 AVR to my TV

SBS One - ok
SBS One HD - no sound
SBS Viceland HD - no Sound
SBS World Movies - ok

SBS HD works via my TV through the same AVR just fine.

All other TVs in the house also run SBS HD ok.

Therefore I'm pretty sure the issue sits with the T4.....any thought on what may help?

Is anyone else having these issues?

Thanks

SBS hd sends multi channel Dolby Digital which the T4 is likely downmixing to multichannel PCM.

Whatever device you have the T4 plugged into is not handling 5.1 pcm properly.

You can try disabling downmixing so that the T4 sends raw AC3 audio, or you can plug the T4 into a service that can handle multi channel pcm properly.

I would be surprised if your avr couldn't handle multi channel pcm, though, so I'm a bit confused.

I just "enabled" ACC downmix.....and things have started working again.
Unsure if this was disabled before...or one of the kids have been in playing around with it.
I note that Dolby Digital / DTS downmix is not enabled also....should it be?
Thank you very much......I was pulling the little hair I have left out trying to figure this out.
Cheers

That you have this option tells us that you have older firmware. Off is fine.

I use AC3 downmix on the T4 without problems. I note that ATM (6pm) SBS is not broadcasting multichannel according to the T4.

Thanks guys.
To be honest I thought this thing did automatic updates.....obviously not....my bad.
I'll have a look at the fireware part of the forum and see if I can update.
Cheers

It does but some updates are too significant to do online.

I am using 19.3 20200405 which is a beta version of the official firmware. It is very stable and necessary to get the latest fixes and picons for the newest channels

Thanks again.

I might try the 6/11/2019 version on the forum after I work out how.

One last question....and sorry this is on the wrong part of the forum.

If I update I see that I lose all my current settings.....does this include the changes I have made to the EPG to get all the sizes just to my liking? Will be pain to get these all done again. May need to take some photos of those page in the menu if that's the case.

Happy to rescan and get my favourites set up again.

Cheers...and I really do appreciate all the help.

Ahh AAC downmix. Yes, that's an older firmware, that doesn;t actually have the multichannel PCM downmixing enhancements that I was talking about.

But yes, having AAC downmixing disabled will never work for anyones equipment.
I'm not really sure why it was ever an option, but there is no consumer AV gear that can take a raw AAC audio stream via HDMI.

You've done the right thing :)

Now get onto that update and you'll get all the picture icons for all those new services :)

To answer that we need to know your current firmware version. The version is shown in the 'Revision' or 'Last Upgrade' field (field is firmware dependent) in MENU>>Information>>About.

It would appear I'm running a very old version.
Last Upgrade states : 2017-03-10.
I've assumed I will lose all settings and will take a photo of my menu settings before I upgrade.
Thanks guys.
Cheers

Yep, that was from the 16.1 series.
Your settings will be incompatible with the 19.3 series firmware.

Grumpy Geoff did have a little script that you can run that will save your timers for you (if you don't use icetv). I'm in mobile atm, so a bit hard to track that down for you, though I am sure GG will assist.

I've assumed I will lose all settings and will take a photo of my menu settings before I upgrade.

The majority of the settings are stored in the /etc/enigma2/settings file. The format is not particularly user-friendly, but it should give you an idea of the required values for the new setup.
From a web browser, you can open and then print your T4 settings file via a number of ways -
file://beyonwizt4/Root/etc/enigma2/
ftp://root:none@beyonwizt4/etc/enigma2/
Via Windows File Explorer - \\beyonwizt4\Root\etc\enigma2
The network share settings are in the automounts.xml file. Again, print it out to assist when setting up again.

Another way to save/print the settings from a browser - http://beyonwizt4/api/settings

And another way again is to export your settings (and timers and AutoTimers) using the "copy timers" script in this linked post.
Then print the settings file to assist when setting up after the firmware upgrade.
You can also restore the timers or AutoTimers (or both) if you wish after the upgrade using the "restore timers" script.

Since you've not updated for a long time, you may have an old front panel firmware version. Check what's reported for 'Front Panel' in MENU>>Information>>About.
If it's not '20057' then you should update the front panel - 'Front panel update - V20057'

Front panel seems to be ok. 20057.
I think I will just update and put my settings in again from photos of menus. Wont hurt to be a little different.
Nothing much else to do on a weekend with social distancing.
Thanks again folks.
