ABC NEWS rebranding

jasmeet_181 has created a picon for the new ABC News rebranding. I hadn't seen anything "official" about it until I saw this week's The Weekly with Charlie Pickering (which is probably stretching the term "official" rather too much), about how "ABC News Radio" has been "streamlined to "ABC NEWS on Radio".

The ABC online EPG now has just the NEWS logo, instead of the ABC News 24 logo, but at least in Canberra, a rescan still labelled it "ABC News 24" in the channel name.

Has it started to be renamed elsewhere, and to what?

Here in Sydney, my recent channel scan showed ABC News still as "ABC News 24", but the on-screen logo has been updated the new logo.

Thanks, Ian. That one looks like it's missing anti-aliasing, and I've had problems scaling logos that aren't anti-aliased. I'll probably go with the SVG one that jasmeet_181 posted. Scaling direct from SVG seems to work quite nicely in GIMP.

I took the SVG from Logopedia and turned the text white and set a 50% transparent black background. This approximates the presentation on ABC News 24.

It's the jaggies in the logo (lack of anti-aliasing) that makes it difficult for me to rescale the logo. If I start from SVG, I can scale it to the right size immediately in GIMP. The resulting pixmap will also be anti-aliased.

The issue isn't the size. It's that when I scaled the image to picon size (100x60) in GIMP the jaggies in the original cause horrible jaggies in the result. I've now found, though, that the problem was caused by my not converting your image from PNG indexed to RGBA.

However, where an SVG is available, GIMP allows me to go straight from SVG to the right-sized pixmap without unnecessary scaling steps.

If you tell me what size image you really prefer then I too can minimise resize scaling issues.

Also, if it helps, I can stop compressing the images before I pass them on.

Basically, the fewer rescales, the better. That's why I like SVGs. Otherwise any high resolution is fine.

Now that I know how to deal with scaling indexed/colourmapped PNGs that's fine, too.
