SBS VICELAND now also in HD (MPEG4)

Post by Grumpy_Geoff » Sun Apr 09, 2017 13:56

SBS VICELAND now also available in HD (in MPEG4)
SBS ONE HD is now in MPEG4

"From Saturday 8 April 2017, SBS VICELAND is available in HD on free-to-air channel 31. SBS has also made upgrades to its SBS HD service available on free-to-air on channel 30"

Hi Geoff,

What a shame that both HD channels are incorrectly flagged as SD MPEG streams. :( (I did bring this to SBS Engineering's attention a while ago.)

Ian.

Yep. Also seeing VICELAND HD out in the boondocks of the national capital. Just as well that nothing important seems to care much about the serviceref service type field.

Hi,

I have E-Mailed my contact at SBS to remind him that the service types for their HD channels are now very incorrect. Let's see what happens.

Regards,
Ian.

Just so my head doesn't explode here, I'm seeing the new SBS MPEG-4 channels in the "All" bouquet, but the T4 is incapable of moving them to my "Favourites" bouquet. Or am I doing something fundamentally wrong?

You just have to highlight the service and choose MENU->7, then select a destination, to copy it to your Favourites bouquet.

If that isn't working, then something else is going wrong with your T4.

And to clarify, that copies the service to the destination bouquet, it doesn't move it. The original stays in the original bouquet.

I was doing it the same as all the other channels I transferred to my Favourites menu. I'm going to rescan and do a fresh transfer, pretty sure that will fix it - I hope_ :) Thanks

If I just wish to scan for this new channel what channel parameters do I put into for a partial scan?

I put in 31 to 31 but that was too easy apparently!

Hi Pete,

It depends on where you are located. In Melbourne, for example, you need to scan VHF-7 to get SBS. (It used to be on UHF-28 but moved in the big analogue turn off.)

Ian.

31 is the digital logical channel number. You need to use the broadcast channel number. What that is will depend on your location.

Here are the locations and channels for SBS that the location scan knows about:

Code: Select all

Sydney
    SBS7 Gore Hill
    SBS32 Kings Cross, Manly
Melbourne
    SBS7 Mount Dandenong
SBS34 Mount Gordon, Mount Victoria, Selby, Upwey
SBS40 Arthurs Seat, Ferntree Gully, Melbourne CBD, South Yarra
Brisbane
    SBS7 Mount Coot-tha
Perth
    SBS7 Bickley
    SBS40 Bedfordale
Adelaide
    SBS7 Crafers
SBS34 Adelaide, Elizabeth Downs, Newland Hill
Gold Coast
    SBS40 Mount Tamborine
    SBS49 Currumbin
Newcastle
SBS38 Charlestown, Cooks Hill, Mt Sugarloaf
Canberra
    SBS7 Black Mountain
    SBS35 Banks
    SBS45 Mt Taylor, Tuggeranong Hill
Sunshine Coast
    SBS35 Bald Knob
    SBS40 Dulong, Tewantin
    SBS50 Bald Knob
Wollongong
    SBS39 Knights Hill
    SBS44 Brokers Nose
Hobart
    SBS6 Mt Wellington
    SBS35 Acton
    SBS42 White Rock Point
    SBS46 Risdon
Geelong
    SBS50 Highton

    SBS45 Mt Yarrabah
    SBS47 Green Hill
Darwin
    SBS29 Shoal Bay

The number in the SBSNN is the channel number to use.

Hi All,

SBS ONE HD and SBS VICELAND HD have now had their service types updated. They are both service type 25 (0x19) H.264 HD.

Ian.

Yep. I checked that here in Canberra today and it's looking good. All the other Canberra SBS services are MPEG2 and have the correct service type, 1.

Probably worth re-submitting the locations scans in prl's location scan thread so that the info is as accurate as possible.
