IceTV ??? Is it really worth it.

Post by oosty » Fri Mar 11, 2016 13:09

I have had IceTV since I got my first T3, the T3 worked well so I bought another T3. But of recient times I am finding IceTV to be causing massive recording problems, so I ask you all are you using IceTV? Is it working properly for you and if do what's your secret? I am finding that it's getting so annoying that I record one show and get the last half of the previous show, and then watching my show it ends part way thru.

Are you having the timer issue(s) on both T3s?
What are your before/after recording margins? - MENU > Setup > TV > Recording settings
Is the EPG set to use IceTV EPG? - MENU > Setup > TV > EPG settings > Enable EIT EPG is off/no
Is the region set correctly in the IceTV account - My Account / Guide Settings?

Do you still have a completed timer from one of the faulty recordings - if so, can you screenshot its contents and also its recording log (for the log, press "i INFO" on the timer entry in the Timer overview screen), or extract that timer information from \\{name-of-T3 e.g. BEYONWIZT3}\Root\etc\enigma2\timers.xml (you should be able to open it from a browser)

Cheers
Geoff

Can you be a bit more explicit, or do you just mean that the broadcasters don't even vaguely adhere to their own schedules, especially after a "realty" show earlier in the evening?

I have a 5 before and a 15 afterwards, which I did hope would have been enough
I did not know about how to set using IceTV as the default peg, but IceTV was shown on the epg list when I would call it up.
Yes my region was set properly, so I do not think that was the issue

Realty shows are one of the worse problems but I thought IceTV was meant to correct this problem, but other shows also had issues although not as bad as the realty shows.

IceTV makes that overrun problem worse if anything. The FTA EPG is often more up to date, and is rounded to the nearest minute (or better?), rather than being rounded to 5 minutes like IceTV.

I have a 3 and 15 padding [when Ice hasn't changed it to 2 and 15], and have rarely missed anything

Yes, but you record EVERYTHING Tezza ;)

But more seriously, it does depend heavily on what and when you are recording. People using auto timers will often customise the padding to suit the particular conditions of a show or a channel because the start and end times can be very variable based on a number of factors. Ice users are generally stuck with the default padding unless they want to micromanage.

:D Makes up for nights like last night when there were only 6 things worth recording and 5 of them were news/current affairs

Even when you adjust the padding on an individual IceTV timer, then you have to hope that it isn't updated or you lose the adjustment

Trying to outguess IceTV on when you'll get IceTV updates on a timer in order to save a few minutes padding sounds like a recipe for annoyance and frustration to me.

But updating the recordings on the T series to follow the FTA EPG changes needs AutoTimers to be set up, for EPGRefresh to run frequently enough to ensure that the changes are fetched and for AutoTimers to run frequently enough to use the new times and adjust the timers it manages. It's doable, but just having the accurate times in the FTA EPG is just the start.

I don't bother with individual padding adjustments, but I do put all non-news/current affairs into a daily folder eg 03 March/12. If Ice changes anything it reverts to the default location and I have to move it
