Ten HD

Post by buck bundy » Thu Feb 11, 2016 17:03

http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2016/02/rea ... en-hd.html
TEN appears to be close to switching its primary channel to High Definition with some readers advising of Smart TV messages advising of a new channel: TEN HD on Channel 13.

So far a message advises “No Service.”

TV Tonight understands there have been a lot of hardware changes at TEN’s Ultimo base, swapping the graphics engines between ONE & TEN, as well as encoders and affiliate feed.

A spokesperson recently advised TEN constantly look at all spectrum options.
No timetable yet, but with 9HD and the imminent 7HD going ahead Ten have no real choice.

ABC-HD before the end of the year?

Hopefully PeterU can fix some of the HD playback issues (ie FF, REW, Image Freeze, etc).

Already here and has been for a while - ABC News 24.

Only 720p but still counts.

Hi,

I noticed some PID tweaking on Network Ten in Melbourne yesterday but a full analysis of the broadcast signal today shows no changes to the line up.

The only recent change I have noted is that Network Seven's TV4ME is now going out in MPEG4 with AAC sound.

Regards,
Ian.

In Canberra, Prime started broadcasting 4ME and ishoptv a while back. IIRC, it was about the same time RACING.COM was introduced, but I may have the timing wrong. The fewer bits that are sunk into channels like that, the better.

I've just been having a look at the scan results people have sent me for the picon updates for Ten HD and 7flix.

It appears that Ten HD isn't MPEG4, and 7flix is, though it's SD.

The servicerefs for Ten HD in all of Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney show service type = 1. That's the service type the T series uses for MPEG2. MPEG 4 SD shows up as 0x16 and MPEG 4 HD shows up as 0x19. 9HD is 0x19. Various Seven infotainment/betting channels show up as 0x16.

But the 'Service Information' screen shows it as MPEG4...

But the same screen shows a serviceref that says that it isn't!

Given what IanSav has posted, I suspect it is in fact MPEG4, but they've decided to attach what I think is an inappropriate service type.

From TEN's FAQ -
"Will everyone be able to receive TEN HD?
No, only people with with TV sets that are MPEG 4 compatible will be able to receive TEN HD."

As I mentioned in another thread, perhaps they are still working out the kinks and it will all be sorted by the 2nd.
