Timer Padding Advice

Hi Guys,

Is there a "rule of thumb" of some type that I can use when setting the amount of padding on the end of timers.

I am finding that i am missing the end of the shows and some channels are worse than others.

What do you guys do ?

10-12mins for 9pm to 11pm, 30mins for 11pm to 9am
If it is after a sporting event or big brother or whatever, then possibly 50mins...
