Transfer of EPG data files to PC

Post by DrPhil » Sun Sep 09, 2007 19:59

Hi Guys,

Is it or will it be possible to transfer the EPG data files (TGD's) from the BW to a PC? I have not been able to get my BW running yet therefor my need to ask in advance without experimentation.

The reason I do ask is because I use Dave Whiteheads XML TV Guide on my laptop for looking at whats on air etc. I like these guides and their presentation and want to keep using them.

If I can't get the TGD files off the BW, then I will have to continue to manually download using TED (a Toppy Application for those who don't know).

If I can get them off the BW then I am going to have to work out how to generate the XML files. Sounds like a candidate for a Delphi app - what you think Dave, feasible?

Cheers

Phil

Phil, I'm not quite following you. Why do you need to get the TGD's off the BW when it's simple to get these using TED, especially if you schedule the grabbing so there's nothing manual involved? You could use the command switch where TED does everything except for uploading the files to the toppy if that's what you're concerned about.

Don't the HD channels broadcast identical or almost identical material as the SD channels? I know that some HD channels broadcast HD loops etc at different times but does this matter?

EDIT: I noticed yesterday that ICETV has an option to copy the SD EPG data to the HD channels. I haven't accessed my ICE profile for an awfully long time!

Simple, nice to have thingo.

If BW downloads the info it would have been nice just to get it from there rather than download it again.

I have Dave's TED-Switch to do what you describe and thats all good. So if its too hard I'm OK.

Cheers

Mmmmm, got a point there I guess.

Sounds like a bit of work to get the guides onto the Laptop with BW / Ice then.

Thanks Kezza

BTW - For you guys with working S1's, can you get at the EPG data or is it non accessible.

Cheers

I would imagine editing the TED ini file to add the HD channels would give them to you.

I haven't had any luck connecting to the BW via FTP, it's something I need to search a bit more on to see if there is a way to do it yet...

Where did you see that this was meant to be possible? I think you are searching for something that doesn't exist.

Regards,
Ian.

Not so, you can definitely download the IceTV Guide data in XML format.

Details can be found at http://www.icetv.com.au/support/setup/setupxml.shtml

The one day of data is only if you have only have the free widget account.

I should probably also point out that the Beyonwiz doesn't use TGD files, the information is downloaded in a proprietary IceTV format and then loaded into the EIT database and also stored in a cache on the hard drive.

Thanks for that info Daniel.

I think I will be sticking with the inbuilt function in the BW.

And I will use TED with Ted-Switch just to grab the data to populate my laptop TV guides. This will at least show me my up and coming favorites so I don't miss anything.

The thing I am going to miss the most is the ability I had to set timers based on program names and actor names etc.

BeyonWiz - Please get Ice Remote working in the BW - that will help.

Cheers

Phil
