Can't get Ice EPG on the bW

I haven't been able to get EPG on the BW for a while now, below are my settings
Wiz (DP-S1) FW is 1.05.294
Wiz is set to a fixed IP on the router, connected by cable into the back of the IceBox2, I can browse the network & play networked files OK.
I successfully fetch twice a day for two Toppys that I also have using the PC.
IceTV is set to "Enable", name & password are OK & I have checked my device settings on my IceTV account web page but I can't select any device when looking from the BW - none show up.
The message on the BW says "try to get scheduler tasks", but never seems to report getting them.
Trying to Check user name & password just goes on forever, doesn't achieve anything, doesn't even seem to time out.

I've also tried deleting, saving, then re-creating my device - no joy. Router has been rebooted several times in the last few weeks, so I don't think it's that either.

Any clues?

Brian, any reason you are not using 301?

When you say you haven't been able to get it for a while, does that mean you were getting it?

Is your user name and password (and device name) just plain alphanumeric?
No email address, etc.

What happens when you check username on the Wiz?

Hi Gully,

I've been testing a few things under .294 so I've got a basis for comparison, (DVDs & different file types) but can't get much TV time to do it (others tend to tie up the TV so I can't get at it) so have held off on the upgrade until I've done a bit more testing.

I haven't had the EPG on the BW for some time now - at least a month, maybe longer - but I've been chasing network issues with the ISP so I wasn't prepared to blame Ice or the WIz until I had the network stuff sorted.

Username & password are plain alphanumeric and as below, trying to Check user name & password just goes on forever, doesn't achieve anything, doesn't even seem to time out.

I will try .301 in the next day or so & check again, to see if that makes a difference.

Brian, what happens with the ICE ping test? Do you have your gateway and DNS setup correctly (both of these aren't required to be correct to browse you local LAN).
Oh, and WizTV won't work without these done correctly, so check that too..
You have a device setup for the beyonwiz over on ICE also presumably?
Regards

Yep, got all that - gatewa & DNS both set to the router's address, device set up OK - even tried to delete then re-add, as suggested on the ICE forum. WiztV works OK, if a little slow at times.

Hi Brian,

I am not an IceTV user but have you exceeded any IceTV maximum device limits? Also, if all your devices are making their requests via the one network device is it possible that IceTV is seeing that as a single device hitting the server too frequently?

The other thing that springs to mind is that IceTV changed their server farm addresses a while ago. This required a change in Beyonwiz firmware to point to the new location. Could any of the older versions of firmware you are testing be prior to this change over?

Regards,
Ian.

Ian,

Both points you raise are what I'm concerned about; I guess I'll only know if it's FW by upgrading and seeing what happens (although I didn't think .294 was all that old, but could be wrong).

If I'm exceeding requests, then even a FW upgrade won't fix the problem. I've posted on Ice forum as well in case the "locals" there can advise me on that matter. If I get too desperate, I'll have give their support a call.

EDIT - Just had a thought, it shouldn't be requests being exceeded, because I'm still fetching via TEDS & it succeeds - from the look of the messages on the BW, the BW is continually trying, so it should succeed before the TEDS attempt does.....?

Hi Brian,

If 01.05.294 is the earliest version you are using then it is well after the address change.

From memory, I think IceTV only allows 2 or 3 devices per account.

Ian.

TEDS uses another mechanism so they are unrelated in all aspects other than having a working account.

Brian,

There's a couple of things you should try:
- Clear the IceGuide Disk Cache.
- Add another device and switch to that device.

Really!?!? I've had 4 devices setup for ages (from way back when we occasionally needed to switch devices to get Ice working again) and as far I know all 4 work (at least for getting EPG data).

Three is what it says in the IceTV support pages (where the link points). I'm not disputing that four might work, but three is what IceTV says works :)

Hi Peter,

I'd already cleared the cache several times, no joy. I upgraded to .301 today and the EPG is back....... I'll be keeping an eye on it to see whether it drops out again.

Thanks all for your thoughts & assistance,

My P1 was without ICE EPG for the last 2-3 weeks. WizTV always works fine, home network setup up unchanged, static IP for the wiz.
On .301 also. I went away for the weekend, and on return found it's back.

Gremlins at the ICE server end IMO.

I wonder if WizTV uses dns, or whether it works using IP addresses? I just have to wonder if you guys had a dns problem of some sorts still. Maybe your ISP had a dodgy DNS cache of the URL that the ICE EPG is looked up over.

Could be.... I believe TPG is reputed to have problems with proxy servers due to their holding on to "stale" information

Same problem for me. Just decided to trial ICE with P1 , set up ok for about 12 hours ,now will not connect .Log on to their web page & account is ok but can not add a device.Network is fine , used regularly without problems .A mystery ?I think it is a DNS problem ? But why does the interactve set up not work on the account page? Username & password are working but the next step is not shown. When i do check on P1 i get an error message.

You have to create a device in your IceTV account and then select it in the Wiz IceTV setup.

Well as long as you are trying that while logged in, you either have a lapsed subscription or a problem you need to raise with IceTV.

Well of course it still doesn't work if nothing has changed.

Give them a call tomorrow.
