trouble playing T2 recordings on the V2

Post by Hostile17 » Mon Jul 06, 2020 12:29

hello.

i got my new V2 today in order to replace the failing aged T2.

ive set it up fine, and signed into icetv etc. but i can not figure out how to play or move recorded stuff from the T2 onto the V2.

if i open the media folder on the V2, i can navigate to the network hdd on the V2, but i get an error that the HDD on the T2 doesn't exist.

i can see both the T2 and the V2 using the web interface on the laptop. just cant access the T2 from the V2.
any ideas where to start looking ?

i just need to remove the last of the recordings off the T2 before i retire it.

Jason.

Can you be more specific about exactly how you're navigating to the HDD on the V2, and what error message you're seeing?

Have you created a network mount for the T2 on the V2?

You can also transfer the recordings from the T2 by taking the T2's disk out, putting it into a USB dock or enclosure and copying disk-to-disk. Just don't connect the T2's disk until the V2 is up and running: the V2 is a bit unpredictable about how HDDs are names if there is more than one USB disk attached at startup.

i created a network mount for the T2, and it the V2 an see that mount, but it says it doesn't exist.
i get the same error when i try to navigate to the NAS that i have.

navigating using the media button. then yellow to change location. when i select the location T2 or NAS that's when the error happens.

i might have to use the disk copy method. ill have to get myself a usb hdd converter / enclosure first.
i only have usb 3 ones, and the T2 doesn't play nice with usb 3 in my experience.

at the moment im manually copyig around 20g at a time onto a usb stick then to the nas. and hope that i can get the nas to be visible.
the V2 arrived today, and im setting it up. but the usb hub didnt come witht he power supply, so i cant plug in more than one usb storage device right now.

ill keep trying to see if i can fix the error. something like 'directory/media/autofs/beyonwiz_t2-harddisk' doesnt exist.
same error when trying the nas. except it says media nas doesnt exist.

Have you given your T2 and NAS "fixed" IP addresses in your router (DHCP IP address reservation by MAC address)?
Same goes for the V2 if you want to access it from the T2.

Giving the precise error message can help locate the problem in the source code. Otherwise it makes it harder to track down where the problem is being caused.

this is the error message exactly as it appears.

'directory/media/autofs/beyonwiz_t2-harddisk' doesnt exist.

all the devices have DHCP addresses. i only need to access it this once to transfer the recordings before i retire the T2.

so i only need it to work this one time. im not fussed if the IP addresses change in future with reboots or time.

thanks again.

You don't care, but the mount will care as it uses the IP address of the target when creating the mount definition.
If it subsequently changes, you'll get the error you describe.

When creating the mounts, ensure you don't exit the network mount popups, let them time out or press OK.
If you delete a mount, reboot first before recreating it.
Did you phaff around with name changes after the mounts was initially created?
Does your NAS support SMBv2?

Now, let's get down to the nitty gritty.
Compare the entries in files /etc/auto.network and /etc/enigma2/automounts.xml, as the mount attributes need to match (the former is used by Linux for the mounting process, the latter by the GUI, AFAIK).
You can use File Commander (MENU>>Sources / Files) to navigate through internal flash to each file. You can copy them to a USB flash drive to view on a PC, or press TEXT to view them on the V2.
Attach them here if you wish (mask out usernames/passwords).

That isn't nearly as buggy as it used to be, though it's still easier to break than it should be.

as i just want this to work the once, i think ill just manually copy the files to usb then to the nas, until i can get them from the nas to the V2.
that's my main goal right now.

ill have to copy them back to the V2 once i get the power supply for the usb hub that was shipped with the V2.
also waiting for the quad tuner add on. im using the single usb tuner from the T2 until the dual one arrives.

it seems way harder than it should be, to have two devices from the same manufacturer on the same network see each other.
the way they advertise the ability to play one devices recordings on the other makes it sound plug and play, when it clearly isnt.

im no newbie when it comes to computers and networking, though this is beyond my skills. (granted im no expert either).

thanks for the attempt at help anyway.

ill give up for now.

Why not just leave them on the NAS and play them from there?

Why not post the contents of /etc/auto.network here so we can take a look.

Very likely we can assist you in getting access to the NAS from the V2 as well.

Really, it isn't hard.

Sorry for the little rant.

I was and still am a little frustrated.

I’ve managed to get the V2 to see the NAS now. But I’ve had to navigate to the nas using the upnp setting. And while it can play the files, I can’t skip or fast forward any of them.

It keeps going straight back to the beginning of the file when I try.

That's DLNA.
Also known on here as shit.

Mount the NAS using SMB/CIFS.
Plenty on here will help you if you work with us.

Yea, don't use upnp. It's an absolutely garbage protocol.

So, let's start with your NAS. What make/model is it (because others may also have the same make thus can provide assistance).

Is it configured for Samba/SMB/CIFS sharing? Further, do you have it configured for Samba version 2 or 3? As a guess, this is likely where you've came unstuck.
By default, the mounting configuration on recent Beyonwiz firmwares uses an option specifying that SMBv2 is the minimum level supported for the mount against the server. This can be changed on the Wiz by editing the mount options.
