V2 Network setup

I've gotten out of my depth!!

I used the network wizard and it seemed to go fine.
I found my NAS and mounted the drives on it.
But when I go to check for my files to play I get the error message "media/autofs/<NAS name> does not exist".
I'm using a Western Digital My Drive as my NAS.
Coming from the P2 where one simply pushed the button that said "find drives" and suddenly all my network was there, I've got to admit that I have no real idea what I'm doing with all the extra protocols and choices that seem to be available on the V2.

Please help, I'm sinking......

Does the mount entry have a "vers=2.1" in the 'Mount options' field? Your NAS may not be using SMBv2. Try it without that option.

Did you make any name changes after the mount was created?
Did the name have any non-alphanumeric characters?

Ensure you don't exit the network mount popups, let them time out or press OK.

Compare the entry in /etc/auto.network and /etc/enigma2/automounts.xml files, as the mount attributes need to match.
You can use File Commander (MENU>>Sources / Files) to navigate through internal flash to each file. You can copy them to a USB flash drive to view on a PC, or press TEXT to view them on the box.

Can't be sure but like Grumpy_Geoff, I suspect your NAS is using an older version of the SMB protocol. I'm assuming the network is working on the V2. Run the network test if you have any doubt.

The samba default now is version 2.1. I use 3.0 on one of my shares but others are still on version 1.0.

On the V2 in Menu-Setup-Networks-Mount Manager there is a Mount Options parameter ",vers=2.1". Older networks didn't have this parameter. Try deleting it for one of your shares. Other values are possible but not normally necessary.

A Network restart is usually enough to apply the setting bur rebooting the V2 may be necessary. If it works, repeat for the other shares.

After playing with it I noticed that there was also an option to mount "NAS name_nfs". I mounted this and it now shows up in my directory.

I should add that my WD nas also has a USB drive plugged into it. I have the actual nas drive named mediaserver_public and the attached USB drive is called mediaserver_movies. So mounting those I get the error message. But mounting the mediaserver_nfs that shoed up on the v2 works, but that is only giving me access to 'mediaserver_public'.

They are both showing vers=2.1, but I'm not sure how to get rid of that to go back to version 1. I just renamed it but nothing happened

You can edit the mount options by pressing TEXT to bring up the on-screen keyboard.

I did that and changed vers=2.1 into vers=1 and vers=1.0 without any luck

I didn't add a username or password when prompted by the V2 as the NAS doesn't need one. Would this cause a problem at all?

Did you use one when setting up the share on Windows?
Is Windows accessing the NFS share or the CIFS share?
The NAS may need a user/password to list the share contents.

As far as I know the NAS is operating by itself without using windows

WORKING!!

Not sure if it did anything but I turned on "allow FTP" in the NAS settings.

Then I ended up deleting all the mounts to start afresh and changed the Samba to vers=1.0 and suddenly it's working.

Which begs the question, why has this option been included by default? Seems like a trap for any user, even fairly experienced users. Anyway, happy now, the network shares are all working.

It has been added to ensure that you can connect to NAS devices and PCs that require a secure connection. Mostly so that you can connect to Windows 7/10 shares without needing to turn SMB1 back on, which is a security problem.

The fact that you had to remove the Ver=2.1 from your NAS mount, suggests that your NAS is using the older insecure SMB protocol, and doesn't support the later more secure version. It could do with an update if one is available.

Thanks Quade, I can see how that is a good idea, but perhaps a warning for users during setup. Anyways that is what this forum is for, right... As for my setup, yes it's an older NAS and I would love to be able to afford an update but they are working and they is no security risk in my network anyway. Cheers for the info.
