V2 Audio delay when streaming

Post by itstonyb » Fri Aug 23, 2019 17:02

Is anyone having an issue with audio delay on the v2 when streaming files from a NAS?

I am getting an out of sync audio delay on all files I stream from my Synology NAS to the V2 other than recordings made on the V2 tuners which are also stored on the NAS.

I get no audio delay with recordings or live tv.

Do you get the delay if you copy the files to the V2 and play them from there?
Are you using SMB, NFS or DLNA to the NAS?

What audio tracks do the other files have? Is it the same for AAC, MP3, Dolby, and DTS audio?

Are you downmixing Dolby/DTS to stereo in the V2?

I can report no delays on my QNAP system. I place all my files in a MKV container with a wide variety of audio formats.

The V2 is bare bone so no internal HDD.

Files on the NAS are a variety of MKV and MPEG files and have been fine on my T4 right up to when I changed it out for the V2.
Using AUTOFS and CIFS share

Have tried on/off for down mixing Dolby/DTS to stereo in the V2 but makes no difference.

I replaced my T4 with the V2 and the T4 did not have any audio delay issues with all the same files on the NAS that are now lagging on audio.

The T4 is now upstairs and when I stream from that to the V2 it is fine with no audio delay.

First thing would be to put an example file on a USB drive and play it while directly connected to the V2.
Your first post specifically mentioned audio delay when streaming from NAS. You just said that streaming from the T4 there is no delay. Do you mean that the V2 can stream the same problematic files without error if they are attached off the T4 HDD, out after you streaming recordings off the T4?

How delayed is the audio btw? Are we talking about a couple hundred millisecond lip sync, or is it a few seconds out?

Can you confirm what audio format each problematic file is in? MPEG/MKV is the container format and doesn't tell us much about the audio.

Will try the USB.

How do I see what audio format each file has?

The most complete info can be extracted by the Mediainfo utility that you can install and run on your PC.

The Audio formats of the files stored on my NAS are a mixture of AC-3, AAC-2, A_AC3 and A_EAC3.

All of them (other than recordings from the V2 which are AC-3) lag on audio by around 100/200 ms on the V2 including the same files played from a USB stick directly plugged into the V2.

None of the files lag on my T4, so it is definitely the V2 with the issue.

No lag on live TV or any recordings made on the V2 and stored/streamed back from the NAS.
Down mixing Dolby/DTS makes no difference on or off.

There is also no lag when I play the same files on my pc or stream over WiFi to my laptop.

That rules out the network then which is a good start.

I can't reproduce any glaring delays in audio on my setup running the latest beta firmware though, and haven't noticed it previously. I tested with a variety of AAC, DTS, and DD files too.

You haven't changed the AC3 or AAC delay settings in the V2's AV Settings menu at all?

What about your audio equipment. Are you using a receiver? Have you applied any manual delay on the input that the V2 plugs into? (different inputs can have different delay settings). Mind you, an equipment delay would probably affect recordings too.

Can you also try playing those files using the Kodi plugin to see if the problem persists?

I have tried changing the AC3 or AAC delay settings in the V2's AV Settings menu which only made it worse, so set back to default (0 delay).
In fact I need to take delay away, not add more.

I am using a receiver however it does not produce any audio delay from any other source such as the T4, PS4 or the recordings/live to TV from the V2.
The audio delay on receiver is 0 also and all I can do is add to the delay as above in the settings, so again have left at 0.

I don't have Kodi Plugin installed so I assume will need to do that first

Its possible to add negative delay but I haven't played with that.

Yes.

Kodi uses a different media player engine to the default wiz one, so its worth looking at,

ok yes then I have tried the delay in V2's AV Settings to both positive and negative delay but neither make a difference.

Besides, if it did it would also affect recordings as well I assume (which it also does not).

My receiver is only positive delay and that just makes it worse.

Hmmmm. A bit hard to explain this one then.....

The icky thing I have left is for you to try installing the latest V2 beta firmware to see if the newer drivers make a difference for you.

I don't recall having issues on the public release, but definitely can't reproduce the delay on the latest beta.

I don't think there is anything icky about the current beta.

I haven't tried upgrading to the beta, but did do a full factory reset, which seems to have improved things.
Will keep an eye on it and if it persists will send it back to bw.

Thanks for every ones input
