Can you use an SD card as a backup location for recordings?

Post by maverick#1 » Mon Aug 28, 2023 20:17

I sometimes remove the external hard drive from my V2 for a variety of reasons but I've occasionally missed recordings when I forgot to plug it back in. Is there a way to set up the V2 so that if a hard disk isn't plugged in, timers will record to the microSD card instead? I want to use the hard drive as the default location for recordings and only use the SD card if the hard drive isn't connected.

No, I don't think there is a way to do that. You could get the operation that you want by shutting down the PVR to remove the HDD, and then shutting it down again when you plug the HDD back in, but that's probably just as prone to "forgot to do it" as any other method.

Thanks prl. I think I'm just going to have to try to be less forgetful. :)

I don't know how reliable it would end up being, but it seems you can create the same mount point for two different devices. Thus, install fstab-Editor, add /media/hdd for your SD card, then add it for your HDD. Press BLUE to make the mounts active. Now when you unplug the HDD it should fall back to the SD, then be restored when you plug it back in.

Alternatively, I created a plugin to link /media/rec to the HDD or the SD, then you'd change the recording location to that. (I'd already mostly written the plugin before I thought about fstab.)
