Can the V2 record something I am chrome casting to the TV?

Specifically Youtube.

If I cast content via my mobile device, can the V2 record it?

Nope.

You'd need a U4, or a T4, with a HDMI Chromecast-capable device with a HDCP stripper (HDMI splitter) to do that.

Before I had the T4 and U4s I would route Foxtel or the DVD/Bluray player to a splitter to remove HDCP. You could do the same with Chromecast. One side went to the TV as a monitor. The other to a small HDMI recorder exactly like this one. Plug-in a USB device for storage.

Later I could playback recordings on the T3.

There are updated offerings but I don't know how well they work - probably OK.

Recently, I did buy a 4k splitter from Amazon advertised as suitable for Foxtel. It duplicates 4k if both output devices are 4k capable or automatically downgrades to 1080p if either is not. Works fine stripping out HDCP in 1080p mode.
