Subtitles ON when Watching Recorded TV (News)

Post by dbareis » Fri May 21, 2021 18:27

Hi, I don't mind the subtitles being recorded but I can't find any way to have them turned off by default so every time I watch a new recording it has sutitles on and I have to click the subtitles button on the remote to turn it off.

The subtitles will be on if the subtitles were switched on at the time the recording was made.

If subtitles are switched off for live tv, then any subsequent recordings made on that channel will have subtitles switched off as well.

The subtitles are always embedded in the recording, you can't really select not to record them, only if you want them shown or not.

Thanks for the answer. Sounds like this is a bug then.

I have the latest firmware (non-beta) software, subtitles are not turned on when the recording starts and most of the recording starts from it being shutdown first.

If so, it's not a widespread one.

Is your recording being made on the same service that you are watching during live playback?
What I mean by that, is that the subtitle setting is a per-service setting. Switching on subtitles only switches them on for that one FTA service.

One possible solution is that it may be possible that the subtitles are switched on on a service with a different LCN to the one you normally watch live. eg. you might have ABC on LCN 21 in your Favourites bouquet and you normally watch that Live, but your timer is actually recording ABC on LCN 2, which has (for some reason) had subtitles switched on.

Other than that, I think the only default option to enable subtitles, only applies to external subtitle files, and not to embedded ones.

Have you installed any odd plugins perhaps?

At this point, it is worthwhile being on the beta firmware. The official hasn't seen an update in a very long time, and we are not sure when Beyonwiz is planning to promote the very current, very reliable beta.

Thanks for the details.

I upgraded to the beta on the V2 (a very secretive process, but I worked it out):
  • Check for updates
  • Reboot
  • Stuff around for some reason to get my HDD working again
This seems to have solved the problem.
