How are you trying to install it?

Have you performed a USB update before?

You need to unzip the firmware image to the root folder of a fat32 formatted USB driver.

You'll need to switch off the V2, and unplug all your other USB devices.

Boot up the V2 while holding down the power button.
The word "update" should appear on the front panel, you can release the power button.

Then follow the prompts on the TV screen to perform the firmware update.

Once done, make sure you plug your USB devices back in and reboot.

(Btw, there is a specific area of the forums for openatv related support)

Sorry but I’m don’t understand forums and all that Jazz. I did manage to get it installed, now when I press the media button to watch a movie from my hard drive it won’t show all the folders on the hard drive and I have to go through a media player to watch them. But before it would play normally through the media button what I wanted to watch...

The V2 will install from an NTFS drive.

The media button should now open the "Enhanced Movie Centre" or EMC

You can navigate to your harddisk by going to /media/hdd/movie

You may also want to explore all the settings. They're fairly well organised on the OpenATV firmware.
One thing you may want to set off the bat is the default movie directory
MENU->Setup->Recordings&Timeshift->Recording Settings->Default movie directory

That way, you can always press the BLUE button when in the EMC to return to your movie directory.

EMC is different in a lot of ways from the Beyonwiz firmware's MovieSelection (aka media selection) screen. One thing that I particularly noticed with EMC is that the Beyonwiz firmware puts both built-in and plugin operations in the same menu (MENU button), they are separate menus in EMC: MENU gives you the built-in functions and AUDIO :!: gives you the plugin functions. IMO this is a misfeature because you have to remember which functions are where, but it does mean that the menus are individually shorted.

In EMC, the HELP button is your friend.

Note that the Series2Folder plugin versions 1.10 and earlier will not work properly on OpenATV. Version 2.0beta1, which works on Beyonwiz firmware, OpenATV and OpenViX, is currently under closed beta test.

I think that IanSav's OverlayHD skin plugin will work on OpenATV, but I've never tried it.

And of course it's your friend when using the standard Beyonwiz firmware too. :D

It was particularly the case of EMC, which is really quite different from the Beyonwiz firmware's equivalent, that I was raising.

But yes, the help function is also important in the Beyonwiz firmware. I think I've demonstrated that I strongly agree by the effort I've put into improving it ;)

No, the current OverlayHD skin does not work on the current OpenATV firmware. I am working with OpenATV to fix an issue with their GUI image caching implementation. When this is done OpenATV will be moving to the next generation skin engine that I developed. (It should be released on OpenViX this week and OpenPLi when I complete some preparatory updates to some support code.) Once OpenATV use the new skin engine I will make the final adjustments to allow OverlayHD to also run on this platform as well.

Ian.

Your efforts are very much appreciated! The changes you have already made, and new updates you are preparing, have transformed the help system from a dot point on a sales blurb to a fantastic must have feature that significantly eases the use of Enigma2.

Ian.
