log in to youtube

Post by kingcasey » Tue Mar 31, 2020 14:46

Cannot log into youtube channel either via the standalone plugin or the 'Kodi'.

Every search returns 'There was an error creating entry list. Maybe try other feeds'.
Very unhelpful message I'd like to add.

With the Kodi version I get 'Youtube: AccessNotConfigured'
For more info see wiki 'https://ytaddon.page.link/keys.

I end up at a page that you need to create a personal API key.
Then a long-winded convoluted 'step by step' process.....

Shouldn't this be a tad more 'user friendly?

cheers, King

Well I've finally achieved it.
Stumbled onto the internet to solve a problem...
To find I'm the only one experiencing it.

YouTube has been a moving target of working, then not working since the early T series. Seems like Google can't help breaking things for third party clients.

I watch many hours every day. Normally all one needs to do is go to the setup menu and sign in with the Google account once. On a phone or tablet you enter the authorisation code and it works after that.

You are the first to identify the plugin has failed unexpectedly.

I have the Wiz dongle with the better YouTube TV app connected so I am not affected by this new bug (yet!). Really one for peteru I suspect. May have crept in to the latest build of 19.3. I'm on build 20200405.

What build are you using? To check visit Menu>Information>About

Oh! Yes, I am sure it is very deliberate. Some rissoles think doing anything to cripple down-loaders is a worthwhile thing. Same deal with the catchup services.

It has worked in the past. I think this is just recent skullduggery by Google that has broken things.

Honestly though, the Chromecast, or an Android TV device is a far nicer way to stream content like that. So you are on the right track IMHO :).

So what's on the dongle that isn't on the shipped V2?

cheers, Mark (king).

The dongle is just a generic Android thumbstick device. I don't have one myself, but I think it is just regular Android, and not Android TV, so your experience with driving it on a TV can be variable.

It has the advantage in that it can run more 3rd party apps than what the Beyonwiz STBs support, but the dongle itself is not as powerful as a proper Android TV media device.

It should be reasonably portable across TVs. It just plugs into a HDMI port on the TV (not into USB). It has its own remote sensor (on a cable so that the main body of the dongle can be behind the equipment). You can also add a USB wireless keyboard dongle to the WizTV device. I used our Beyonwiz-supplied Xtreamer Mini Keyboard2 with it. It's really the only thing I've ever user the trackpad on the minikeyboard for.

We only ever used it plugged into our Sony HT system, and then on to the TV, because then it can be used without having the Beyonwiz T4 running (and we never wanted to record from it).

IMO the user experience on the WizTV dongle isn't all that great (and it's quite hard to use without a trackpad or similar), but it allowed us to stream some ABC and SBS programs that we'd missed recording.

We now do all our catchup watching directly on our new Android-based TV.

The dongle comes with a very short female-to-male HDMI extension cable (it has a male HDMI plug on the body of the dongle). You'd probably want a longer cable if you wanted to connect it to a TV.

I watch YouTube on the dongle for hours most days but it's limited in its suitability for recent apps such as the catchup services and Kodi. Basically, it has Stan, Netflix YouTube and a lesser version of Kodi that crashes a lot. Other apps are available in the playstore but are often not compatible.

There are better, more recent options around but depends on how much you want to spend.

Thanks for the replies chaps.
I found the work-around.
Having an LG 'smart' TV I linked the sound output into my stereo and can access 'Youtube' channel from the LG.

cheers, Mark.
