0 plugins of 1 installed, 1 error?

Post by Fandangles » Sat Mar 21, 2020 15:04

I've been getting this error with trying to install a few plugins lately, notable with the FritzCaller plugin (and some others) but I don't know where to go to help start the debugging process.

Could someone help me out please? Would be appreciated.

I would find that plugin very useful as I have a Fritz!Box router.

FritzCall isn't in the standard Beyonwiz feed stream. It's an oe-alliance plugin, and not all of those are included.
Where are you seeing it listed, I'm assuming it's from (PLUGIN|MENU>>Plugins)>>Software management>>Manage extensions>>Communication?

Unless you can find it in .ipk form, I think you'll be out of luck.
Some satellite boards have it, but you have to register to download the file

It's an enigma2-plugins plugin, not an oe-alliance-plugin, but the rest is right.

That's almost certainly right (though it's also in the Network section in Manage extensions). If I try to load it from there I get the same error message as Fandangles, and it's not listed in PLUGIN, GREEN Download plugins.

The list of plugins in Manage extension isn't loaded from the list of plugins actually available for the PVR, and most likely contains other plugins that aren't available.

The error message is because the attempt to install the FritzCall plugin fails because it isn't available on the plugin feeds.

... and even then it may not work.

The plugin is all Python code, so in extremis it should actually be possible just to grab the source files off the source repository and pop them in the right directory on the PVR.

This is the second time Manage extensions has caused puzzlement for users in the past week or so. Can anyone think of a good reason why it shouldn't be disabled?

I came across it here, https://github.com/oe-alliance/enigma2- ... /fritzcall, that's why I called it an oe-alliance plugin.
I gather then that some non oe-alliance plugins are sitting in other repositories?

Rather than creating more restrictions perhaps it is time that Beyonwiz started bringing its code up to date with all the other Enigma2 images.

I think this issue has mainly come about since the 19.3 series release when the 3rd-party plugin recipe was removed, thus the majority of plugins that are listed/exposed in Manage extensions, but not actually present in the feed, has surfaced.
e.g some missing plugins shown here - viewtopic.php?f=56&t=13422#p179607, next post from peteru points at the plugin recipe being removed.

Here's FritzCall. It installs, and appears to work, but whether it actually does is for you to discover...

FritzCall is in the latter, not in the former.

Rather than creating more restrictions perhaps it is time that Beyonwiz started bringing its code up to date with all the other Enigma2 images.

If I may paraphrase Shakespeare's Julius Caesar: "The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our code, but in our data".

The contents of the list of plugins offered by Manage extensions is determined by /usr/share/meta/index-*.xml. Those files contain packages that are not in the Beyonwiz feeds and the Beyonwiz feeds contain packages that aren't in the Manage extensions lists, like the IceTV plugin. I have no idea how the lists are generated, but the files are created in the image build process and do not reflect the contents of the Beyonwiz feeds.

The code that reads those files is in Components.PackageInfo, but there's nothing wrong with that code.

Manage extensions offers no functionality that isn't in Download plugins/Remove plugins. I think it (or at least the version in the Beyonwiz image) has some elements of poor UI design, in particular that it doesn't clearly distinguish between whether your are installing or uninstalling a package at any time in the package selection process. You only really find out what it's actually going to do once you go back to the category list and press Process.

If the "up to date" code improves that, then yes, that would be preferred, but the UI design has nothing to do with the fact that the package lists it presents are different from what's actually available.

Hi Prl,

I was indicating more than just the code. ;) Perhaps the list of available packages can also be expanded. In support of your post it would also appear that the Beyonwiz build system may need to be corrected so that the correct list of packages is appropriately built.

Regards,
Ian.

Wow, I generated a storm somewhat. Pity I can't use it as it would be extremely useful.

Grumpy_Geoff, yes, it was in (PLUGIN|MENU>>Plugins)

You should be able to use it, as Adoxa fetched the source for you and made it into a package, see here - viewtopic.php?p=185398#p185379
Just download that .ipk file he posted. Then copy it onto a USB flash drive, and then safely eject it from your computer.
On the Wiz, be in Live TV, and insert the flash drive. There'll be an 'Install Extensions' popup appear. Follow the prompt to install the package.
Then reboot the Wiz.

Though it may not be strictly speaking the "right thing", you can use the same USB stick for both firmware updates and installing posted plugins.

My USB update stick has firmware updates for all 5 models and some plugins on it, and it all works nicely :)

Thanks for the info Grumpy_Geoff, this will be handy.

Now, anyone know how to pry the remote from my wife's hand long enough to do this? She is obsessed with her new toy and I don't enter into the equation!

Do you know how to use command line access? If you do, then you can install the package that way - but it'll still require a reboot to enable the plugin, so you'll only gain a few minutes by using the command line :)
