SD Card disappears after shutdown.

HI,

Received the USB dual tuner yesterday, so put the V2 up in the lounge room, in place of the U4 to test it a few days before swapping it with my wife's T2.

I have a 512GB micro SD card which I formatted (initialised) in the V2's rear slot.

Did a recording, and it worked OK.

When I shutdown, and then restart the V2, the SD card isn't available.

Have to format again. Do a shutdown or reboot, and no SD (card is there but not mounted/formatted?)

Did the routine a couple of times, but same result.

Any theories?

While the V2 was in Standby, I removed the SD, put it in my PC, and could read the files. Played the recording fine. Can't copy files to the SD though.

Though it's probably not related to your problem, if you're using a microSD card for storage, you should only remove it after successfully unmounting it using SimpleUmount, or after putting the V2 into shutdown/deep standby. Putting the V2 into standby isn't enough.

What brand/speed card are you using? I've not had any of those sorts of issues with my Sandisk or Samsung ones (U3 A2 and A1).

Yeah, I would say not related, as I hadn't removed it until I tried in the PC.

I put the SD in an adaptor, the plugged it into the USB3 port, was found, and mounted immediately.

EDIT: Must add that it can't be unmounted because it's in use by Timeshift.

When I pressed Media, the recordings were there, and timeshift files existed when I checked in File Commander.

Shutdown, put it in the back slot, not mounted.

I had installed ext2fsd.

Using a Samsung EVO. Works fine in the adaptor.

Will log files help? I've just turned that on. Have to reboot for it to take effect.

It's beginning to sound like a fault with the microSD slot.

The more useful log file is probsbly going to be /var/log/messages on a failed mount of the microSD card.

The microSD device is detected, but data can't be read from its storage. The fact that the device works when in a USB adapter points toward the fault being in the microSD socket or associated electronics.

Any idea why would it be able to read & write OK after it's formatted, but not when the V2 is rebooted?

I'll create a Support Request in the AM, and point BW to this thread.

I may try the 128GB SD from my dash cam first, see if that has the same problem.

Sorry, really no idea. I don't know enough about the hardware or the details of the detect/initialise/attach/mount process.

I may try the 128GB SD from my dash cam first, see if that has the same problem.

Tried my 128GB, same result. Which is good, in a way.

Back it goes!

So far (since 2015):

1 x T2 several faults over time, and slowly died. (after lightning strike). RIP
1 x U4 HDMI failed (TV was On, then powered off, no HDMI when switched back on). Replaced by BW.
1 x T2 HDMI failed (power surge). RIP
1 x V2 SD card slot fault. NFI

• Power the V2 on.
• When up and ready insert the microSD.
• Retrieve and post /var/log/messages file.

Now BW just needs to get a roundtuit.

I had one, once, but I've lost it. I think I got it from a Wheels magazine in the 70s. Could have loaned it to BW, speed things up. Was the upgraded version too.
