Streaming to Chromecast from Beyonwiz

Post by paulg » Sun Jan 05, 2020 14:53

Hi, is it possible to stream from the V2 to a Chromecast on another TV? If so, can you stream one recording to another TV while watching a second recording via the HDMI output on the V2.

Thanks, Paul.

I'd like to be able to do Chromecasting of the T4 and U4 too! But is it possible for any of the Wizzes?

You can't cast the output, but you can stream recordings or live tv to a second Wiz unit.

Really, any smart device that can run a DLNA client should be able to stream recordings from the Wiz.

You could also clone the display from a mobile device and cast that of you wanted to get a bit hacky.

This is where the bare bones approach to the V2 is handy, you can buy a basic V2 with no storage or extra tuners and use it for a remote display. Yes a we bit expensive, but does have a few advantages over a basic Chromecastv device.

Off topic perhaps but this will solve our issue - watching HDMI IN in another room. You can't stream HDMI IN to the PC but if we record it on the U4 we can watch it in the kitchen on short delay on the T4. Tested and working.

Thanks for the suggestion Mr Quade.

You should be able to watch the transcoded stream from a HDMI-IN signal. It's been a while since I played with that stuff, but I seem to recall that working.

I expected so but I get a black screen when I try playing the HDMI IN .m3u8 file on the PC.

Are you clicking on the normal stream icon or the transcoded stream icon?

Good point MrQuade. The transcoded stream does work on the PC!

And by recording HDMI IN we can watch cricket in the kitchen on the T4 without paying F#@tel a ransom.

You can also stream the live HDMI-IN to the kitchen T4 much like the web interface. You just need to ensure your bouquet is set up to access the transcoded stream too. I won't vouch for how reliable it may be in the long term though, given the HDMI-IN limitations :).

Could a kind soul please go back a few steps and explain HDMI-IN, and methods for accessing it?

Cheers, Steve

Not a a V2 we can't :) It's only on T4 and U4 models.

To expand on what Grumpy_Geoff said, HDMI-IN is a HDMI input on T4 and U4 models that allows the PVR to convert input HDMI video and audio into an MPEG4 file or stream.

I highjacked your thread so no apology necessary :) :)

There is a lively discussion in this thread more related to my spurious interest that displaces Chromecast as an option to watch Foxtel elsewhere in the house.
