Audio Not Coming Through

Post by mister_bimbo » Tue Dec 24, 2019 08:19

Hi Folks,

I've got a V2, which I've been very impressed with. I've recently downloaded a program that is encoded with H265 and the rendition of the images is superb :)

Unfortunately, there is no sound.

I have made no modifications at all to the sound settings of the V2, or my TV (a Panasonic LCD) - so both are default, connected via HDMI. The firmware on the V2 is the standard one that it was shipped with (I have not yet applied the latest firmware release).

Below is the dump of the header information from the file - I'm hoping this means something to the folks on the forum as I'd like to be able to enjoy the audio along with the (very) pretty pictures!

Is there a configuration setting that I need to enable on the V2 in order to play this file, or a plug-in that I need to load into the V2..?

Cheers,
David

It looks like it might be having trouble converting the 7.1 AAC audio track. Seems like an interesting decision by the video author to encode it like that.
I'm not sure I even have an example file like that in my collection to test with....

I tried applying the latest firmware, but that's not made any difference.

If it helps Mr. Q, I can provide you the file for testing - I always appreciate the support folks in this forum provide :)

I have tried a demo file containing a 7.1 AAC HE_AAC audio track and was not successful.
The V2 didn't seem to want to play the file at all, progress indicator did not move. The U4 played the file and I got snatches of audio, and my T4 played the file, but was completely silent.

A video with a 5.1 A_AAC-2 audio track worked fine.

I found a DTS 7.1 video that worked happily, although now I think of it, I do have DTS set to passthrough, not decode, so need to try that again when everyone isn't asleep.

Thanks for trying Mr.Q :)

I've now had a try using the file player that's embedded in the TV's (Panasonic) and it plays just fine using them, so it would appear that the files are fine, it is just that the V2 is unable to decode the audio.

For the files that I'm trying to play, the video works just perfectly - only the sound is a problem. I don't (yet) know what I can use to amend the coding, but as it plays fine using the TV's file player, I'm just going to use that when needed :) The file player is just a fair bit cruder than what is in my T4/V2 ... hopefully they'll eventually catch up!

Cheers,
David

I have seen a report that Popcorn Audio Converter will convert your 7.1 tracks to DD 5.1 without touching your video stream.

Worth a try.

Thanks for the link Raymond, and I agree - worth a try :)

Unfortunately for me, that's Windows-based product so not an option in our Apple/Mac household

As I said, I can use my TV's to play the file, and they do a "good enough" job of it: the playing back is totally fine, its just the navigation to the file and within the file that is lousy ...

David

Possibly Avidemux for mac http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/download.html.

I don't know much about Apple/Macs, so I don't know if the osx version of Avidemux available is only going to work in Mojave.

Avidemux was used by many, not by me, to reconfigure XviD packed bitstream encoded files to be readable by the DP series. I tried it recently to reencode an audio track that was unreadable (at some point in time) by the T series, I think, but it appeared to rely on an existing installation of LAV filters. The Windows version I downloaded just now was configurable to reencode 5.1 HE-AAC to stereo AC3, also Dolby Prologic, indicating use of Aften for transcoding.

Again, probably worth a try,
