Android: WizOS vs Dream EPG vs OWIF vs ???

Post by Barboots » Fri Jan 17, 2020 16:25

Overall, I'm quite happy with the basic functionality of WizOS as a link between my V2s and Android phone. It does everything and handles the two boxes fine. However the EPG is quite unfriendly in its formatting unless you turn the phone to landscape, and even then it's hard to pick out the broadcast gems from the majority of trash that's on.

I downloaded Dream EPG (free) and it's pretty slick, customisable and comprehensively featured. The mostly monochrome interface is somewhat plain, but the EPG is excellent to peruse. However the free version is part crippled... you need to pay $12 to see more than 10 channels or connect to more than one box.

I was just about to buy the premium version, but thought I'd ask about any other options that people are finding good to use. I've previously had IceTV, but have decided I'd rather not be paying a monthly fee as the weekly highlights are not often in my field of interest. Plus the V2's EPGs are much easier to scroll through than my old DPs. I just wasn't feeling the value.

I appreciate that there is a WizOS thread, however it's not in the V2 section and as such this post might not end up on some V2 owners radar.

Cheers, Steve

Thanks Peter... I learnt something that will be useful by looking at that. The "mobile view" doesn't appear to have the EPG feature. Switching to the full desktop version offers the EPG, however the formatting is still a bit unwieldy for "prospecting" for items of interest.

Maybe I should fire up an old tablet to have around for a guide... or pony up the twelve buck investment for Dream EPG

It does, sort of.
Bouquets (TV)>>Favourites (TV)
The "on now" is listed for each service in the bouquet.
Select a service and the events for the next 7 days are listed, select an event and you can add a timer.

Thanks for that Geoff... I gave up on it a little too quickly.

Here's some comparisons if anyone is interested:

FWIW I set up Google Family, bought the Dream EPG for $12, and loaded it on a few devices. I'm pretty happy with it 👍
