Hauppage USB dual tuner on a T2?
Hauppage USB dual tuner on a T2?
G'day,
I received the offer on the new V2 unit and it can be either a triple tuner or quad tuner with the Hauppage Dual Tuner USB adaptor.
So, my question is can the USB tuner be used on the T2 taking it to a quad tuner, and if so, is it straightforward?
Thanks.

That's a good question. Unfortunately I don't have a dual USB tuner, but I know that some of the V2 testers do.

No. None of the T series or U4 can deal with a USB dual tuner device.
The drivers even needed special modifications to work on the V2.
Aside from the drivers though, I think that the T2 lacks some other hardware capabilities that are required to support a dual tuner seeing as it can't handle two single USB tuners either.

Re: Hauppage USB dual tuner on a T2?
MrQuade has previously posted that a Sony PlayTV dual-tuner USB unit wouldn't work on the T2 nor T3 (the driver was installed). I think it was a hardware demuxer limit, in that a single tuner would likely work; but not a dual unit.
Re: Hauppage USB dual tuner on a T2?
On that note too. The V2 does sorta-kinda work with the Sony Play-TV too.Grumpy_Geoff wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2019 13:15MrQuade has previously posted that a Sony PlayTV dual-tuner USB unit wouldn't work on the T2 nor T3 (the driver was installed).
It will work if you plug the Play-TV in and then boot the V2. But it will fail if you ever reboot the V2 with the Play-TV already plugged in.
I must have something to do with the Play-TV being left in an unstable state (or the Play-TV state gets lost) if it has been already initialised and the drivers get restarted,
I'm quite pleased that I tested it out of the blue though, since that confirmed that a dual-tuner was at least possible, and some extra effort was put into getting the Hauppage dual-tuner working (seeing as it is about the only USB dual-tuner device you can get new these days). Makes it a lot neater than having to have two separate USB tuners.
The V2 has been tested with up to 5 USB tuners in total, but then you can't watch Live TV (Only record from 5) It's not a "supported" feature though for obvious reasons.

Have you tried using one of your T/U-series units as the V2's remote receiver for viewing of that fifth network whilst it's recording?

I wasn't the one who tested that 5 tuner setup, so not sure.Grumpy_Geoff wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2019 13:40Have you tried using one of your T/U-series units as the V2's remote receiver for viewing of that fifth network whilst it's recording?
I might be able to give it a crack on the weekend, but things are a bit busy atm.
