WizOS time slider

Post by tb123 » Mon Apr 03, 2017 09:43

I have the WizOS app on three devices at home. 2 x iPad's and a Galaxy S7.
When playing back a TV recording from my T4 ( this was the same before and after the latest major update) the time slider works as expected on my S7. That is to say if I want to fast forward through the program the slider roughly approximates the time in the show. 50% slider = 50% show time, 75% = 75% and so on irrespective of the total show duration.

On my 2 x iPads there is an issue however. On shows with a total duration of around an hour, the slider works as expected, (50% = 50%) however when shows are multiple hours in length (sporting events for example) the time slider does not function very well. Sliding it to the 50% position might only fast forward the show 30 minutes and sliding it to near 100% might only get around an hour into the show. (Seems to be about 64 minutes)

The closest I can narrow it down so far is I can control an 83 minute show, but not an 87 minute show.

Is this a known issue or has anyone else found the same problem?

Cheers
Tim.

No answers for you unfortunately, but I did notice that 83 minutes is close to 5000s. I am wondering if there is some magic calculation hidden in the iOS WizOS app that cracks it when recording duration is longer than 5000s for some reason. Not sure what makes 5000 significant, other than being a round decimal number though.

Times in recordings inside the Beyonwiz are in units of 1/90000 sec. Unfortunately, though, 5000*90000 is 450000000, which isn't near any "interesting" values like the maximum 32-bit unsigned number (2147483647) or the maximum unsigned 32-bit number (4294967295). It's way bigger than any 24-bit (or 16-bit) number.

So that doesn't look like the cause of the problem.

I don't have the iOS version of the app, because I don't have anything that would run it. I have it on an Android Samsung S4.

Just a follow up on this, I've reported it to Beyonwiz support and have yet to hear back, will report back.

Today I tried to FFwd a 78minute program and could only get to around 39 minutes into it by moving the slider all the way to the end of the program, so seems a bit random with respect to program length, but it appears to only forward around 50% of the program when it does have an issue.

My understanding is that the Android and iOS apps were developed by a contractor. I have no idea who hods the source code or what the maintenance arrangements are.

The last update to the Android version on Google Play was August 19, 2015.

From working on a mac with wiz TS files, the one aspect that I keep tripping over and that may be related is that the pts values are commonly handled as uint64 values. Now this is fine but, the pts base gets randomly (?) reset, so the pts sequences run as, big number, bigger, bigger, very small, bigger, etc.. This has the consequence that "simple" arithmetic gets tricky in unexpected places, such as trying to calculate actual duration from by taking first pts from last pts when the last pts is smaller than the first (uints get upset when you try that....).

So, it may be informative to know if the programs where the slider misbehaves contain a pts reset, not that I can see a simple way of checking that without a bespoke program (longer programs being more likely to contain a reset).

Just a thought.

I heard back from support, they were trying to get hold of an iPad to test it, but did mention that getting a resolution might be an issue if it's a bug due to the developers being hard to get hold of.

Confirmed as a BUG by Beyonwiz support.
An ETA on a fix is unknown as they do not have an app developer on the books to do it at this stage :?

They could just make it Open Source. Unless they neglected to buy the copyright from the original developer.

I am not sure if this is connected or not. I have installed the app on my iPhone (6) quite a while ago, but TBH never used it until last night. Decided to watch a show on it as I had some time to kill and no TV handy. In the interest of full disclosure, the how was 114 minutes long, so that may be a factor, reading this thread
I was attempting to skip past commercials, but the weirdest things were happening. Sometimes, when I moved the slider, it just jumped back to where I was, but, more annoyingly, it would sometimes go backwards instead of forwards.
Sometime, having gone waaay backwards the time showing actually was showing a future time. What I mean is, say I was at 40 minutes, trying to go forwards just three minutes or so. After several attempts, watching the slider jump back as soon as I took my finger off it, it would finally stay where my finger was. It would show that I was now at 66 minutes (which of course wasn't what I wanted, anyway) yet I'd discover that it has gone back nearly (or sometimes fully) to the beginning. After a while I gave up and decided it was quicker to watch the commercials :-)
Is this connected to the problem in this thread, or something different?
Cheers,
Judy

Hi, Judy.

I don't use the WizOS app for viewing, so I can't help much. Your problem may be related to the other issues reported in this topic.

The app is not open source, so the only way you can get problems with it fixed is through Beyonwiz support. The Android version of the app was last updated on 19 August 2015. Not sure about the iOS version, but I don't think it's been updated any more recently.

BTW: something has broken the formatting in your signature block: the initial size and color tags seem to have been deleted.

Thanks for letting me know, it didn't look broken when I went to edit it, but obviously was, so deleted it and started again

Judy - it does sound very much like the issues I'm having with the time slider on iOS app.
You could try controlling a shorter duration program (60 minutes or less) to see if it works ok, but basically it sounds like we are stuck waiting for someone to get around to updating/ fixing the app.

Hi All,

I have just tried the app v1.4 on my ipad mini IOS 9.3.5

Not able to to use the slider at all, it moves but the recording just starts at the beginning again.

I have a newly installed T2 a couple of movies from last night as a test. 150 to 184 min long.

System OE: OE-Alliance 2.4
Distro: beyonwiz
Firmware version: 4.4.20160818
Driver date: 20160405
Kernel version: 3.14.2
Gui version: 2016-06-10

I'll try again with a shorter recording.

I just tried it on my older iPAD running iOS 9.3.5 and found the same as you, it goes back to the beginning of the recording.

When I tested it after the app update it was on a iPAD Air2 running iOS 11.something and it works fine, just checked it again. This wasn't working prior to the update, so looks like there are still issues with the new App (1.4) on older versions of iOS.

I have only just found out that a recent firmware update to the T4 has broken the WizOS app, so I replaced the iOS app with the Gigiblue one that was recommended. It appears to have the same time slider issue that the WizOS app used to have.
Are the devs contactable through here at all or via the App store?

The Gigablue devs probably don't even know what a Beyonwiz is. Gigablue is an app that can interface with any number of dozens of similar PVR products, and was most likely developed with the European market and other brands in mind.
