T4 will not complete reboot
T4 will not complete reboot
Recently, my T4 would not turn on from “sleep” mode using the remote.
I turned the power off & then on again a few minutes later for it to reboot.
It commenced “booting” but froze when the blue circular image appeared on the TV & did not progress beyond there.
I have tried several times with the same result.
Does anyone know if the Beyonwiz support business has closed down?
I need to know where to obtain assistance or service.
Days ago I submitted a request for help (#132459) at the online Tech Support page, received an automated response but notheing further.
I also called the Beyonwiz shop for advice where support was available- but no answer on (02) 9603 1822.
Your advice please.

Re: T4 will not complete reboot
I'd try to re-flash the firmware on your T4.
Grab the production/general release firmware from the downloads section of the Beyonwiz website - https://beyonwiz.com.au/downloads/
See how that goes first.

Re: T4 will not complete reboot
Not sure if you'll like this news, but my T4 started doing that over the course of a few months.
It eventually got to the point where it started freezing during operation. I did do a firmware restoration to fix the issue once, but on re-starting I would get video signal corruption and further boot failures even after a power cycle.
My T4 had previously been repaired due to the infamous "regulator heatsink" issue, but it appears that maybe the damage was a little more widespread. Either that or the poor girl just up and died for separate age-related reasons.

Re: T4 will not complete reboot
Unfortunately that fix did not work.
When I inserted the USB with the latest firmware and turned on the power, the usual blue image appeared on the TV.
On the T4's own screen it said:
"Booting Beyonwiz T4 2015-06-15" (was 2015-06-15 date of manufacture?).
There was no advice to press the up button and there was no other progress.
Unless I can find a fix, does anyone know where Beyonwiz PVRs can be serviced?

Re: T4 will not complete reboot
Is it a USB drive that you have used for updates previously? The T4 is very picky about which drives will and won't work.
It must be FAT32 formatted, and the correct directory structure containing the firmware image must be present. Most importantly and also most confusingly, the drive must be USB1.1 compatible (many new drives are not).
Normally we would refer you to forum user Warkus as the go-to man for repairs, but he may not be keen to take on new work at the moment.
As far as I know, Beyonwiz themselves use, (or did use at one point) NASA Electronics for their own repairs.

Re: T4 will not complete reboot
Our T4 had a sudden crash while we were using it last Sunday. The front panel went black and the remote stopped working. I powercycled, and then it was OK. The debug log just stopped and there was no "enigma2 terminated with code" in enigma2_execution.log, so it wasn't killed by the OOM killer. I suspect a kernel problem, but it didn't reboot as I'd expect it to after a kernel panic..
I didn't try to investigate any further because there were recordings running.
For now, I'm blaming cosmic rays.

Re: T4 will not complete reboot
The USB was FAT32 formatted.
I'm not sure about USB1. compatibility so I'll re-try with a much older USB.

Re: T4 will not complete reboot
It seems my USB3.0 is backwarly compatible.
Looks like I need a service company's assistance

Re: T4 will not complete reboot
I looked for " Lexar USB 2.0 S50" from Woolies." but theynow sell the S60 and not S50
Any difference?
I ca't find a source for the S50 model near me in Melbourne.
I can buy on eBay but prefer not to wait a week or more for delivery

Re: T4 will not complete reboot
I know that Woolies don't list the S50s anymore, but I've been to two different Woolies in the last few weeks that still have S50s on the shelf/hooks.
I don't know if the S60 is as reliable in firmware flashing on the T2/[T3/]T4 as I've found the S50 to be (worked every time, and I've done a lot of firmware flashing).
Re: T4 will not complete reboot
I would not bother trying to reflash. It's almost certainly a hardware failure. The sooner you disconnect it from power, the better the chances of it being repairable. Having said that, those chances are fairly low. The most likely cause is motherboard damage near the tuner power supply voltage regulators.
Re: T4 will not complete reboot
As a last resort I got some Lexar USB 2.0 S50 from my local Woolies but still no joy.
So the T$ will be on the way to NASA electronics tomorrow.

Re: T4 will not complete reboot
Hmm.
Did you do these steps?
Unzipped the firmware so that the "beyonwiz" folder was sitting at the top (root) level of the USB thumbdrive.
Shut down the T4 to deep standby, then power it off with the rear switch.
Detach any USB storage devices.
Insert the thumbdrive containing the firmware.
Flick the rear switch back to the on position.
Observe the front panel for the prompt to press the front panel up button.
Re: T4 will not complete reboot
Did all those steps
Re: T4 will not complete reboot
However, as the T4 would not responmd to the remote, all I could do was turn off the power

Re: T4 will not complete reboot
Well, if the front panel shows loading up to 49%, then that is the stage for the enigma2 UI to start, if it doesn't proceed further there'd not be a chance for the remote to be seen as the UI has failed to start.
