IceTV (Mk2) and Firmware Update.

Post by Swanny » Sat Oct 17, 2015 10:48

It looks like IceTV Guide is up and running - I may recover something. But I will resubscribe as it works well for me.

1. There is I believe a firmware update somewhere - not sure where?
2. IceTV plugin is not installed on the update.
3. The plug in somewhere I am led to believe - where do I find it?

I am wary of updating if I head into confusion.

The IceTV plugin has been removed in the two latest updates to the beta firmware. It has not been removed in the current official firmware (2015-08-31) or any of its updates.

In the beta versions where it has been removed, it can be installed by downloading the plugin. From Live TV, PLUGIN, then GREEN Download plugins, then navigate to systemplugins, press OK, navigate down to icetv, press OK. You may need to restart the GUI (or reboot) to get the plugin fully working.

My Plugin for IceTV seems to have gone AWOL and my EPG is now starting to have empty spaces, etc.....however, at the Plugin Browser, I can't see the Plugin to redownload/install....?

Where can I actually find this?

The Plugin Browser only shows installed plugins. You need to select the "Download plugins" option instead.

The IceTV plugin is under "systemplugins"

Thanks for that Mr Q.

I don't know where the original plugin went.....must have been removed/overwritten/deleted by firmware updates....

It was removed from being installed by default in the beta firmware when it looked like the IceTV service might cease. I don't know whether it will be reinstated as being pre-installed in future versions.

Hi,

As IceTV is an optional service I hope the IceTV plugin remains an optional plugin. There are lots of plugins in the plugin list we don't need optional plugins forced on those who don't use IceTV.

Regards,
Ian.

Oh Dear,
I upgraded to the latest Firmware and restored eating then when to look for the IceTV plugin.
As instructed I looked under Plugins/System plugins and could only find and experimental enigma 2 plugin so I install that.
Nothing seemed to happen except I lost control of the menu button and the epg button, however the Media button worked.
I restarted and managed to open plug ins again and found the IceTV Plug (not in the systemplugins) which I installed and all seem to be okay
----- except -----
Should I reinstall the firmware as I have no idea of the consequences of installing the experimental enigma 2 IceTV plugin
Please advise

That's interesting. I also found that the first time I invoked the plugin downloader, I got a very restricted list of plugins. I thought it was just because I opened it straight after rebooting, but perhaps it is a first-run bug?

You can try uninstalling the experimental plugin if it appears on the list. Might be safest to reflash and start again if it is worrying you.

Where did IceTV appear for you. It definitely appeared in systemplugins for me.

Right. I reinstalled the Firmware.
when to Menu/Plugins/Green Download/ System Plugins/ then only "ICETV(3.0+GIT 34641) in a long list of plugins.
There is no IceTV Plugin
I have restarted but no luck.

Last Time I installed this plugin then restarted and the IceTV plug in appear in the list of normal plugins under Gmail Reader

Strange. I have never downloaded plugins using the procedure you describe there.

You can also install the plugins from the Main Menu by going to Settings->Plugins->Download Plugins.

That is where you see the "System Plugins" sub-category.

The method you use must just present them in a flat list.
The ICETV(3.0+GIT 34641) should be the same thing.

I followed you suggestion through Setup
I still get the same flat list with the icetv (3.0 etc) Perhaps this is the flat list title.

I shall reinstall it - others may be having the same problem

Yay
The IceTV Guide in now in the Plugin list under Gmail in colour with logo etc.

The instructions on the email that was sent with the Firmware upgrade were not clear as to what to plug in.

All seem to be back on track now
Thanks for the courage.

Ok, I tried both your way and my way, and I get the same thing.

This is what you are supposed to see when you select "Download plugins".

Yes, I get there. It looks exactly like that from either path.
Then I scroll down to the bottom line "systemplugins" - select - then I get a black and black and white two line of a list of about 20 plug in of which IceTV(3+ experimental) I mention was one. It actually worked. Once I installed it the IceTV appeared on the normal plugin list.

Yes for me if I install that (experimental) plugin the proper IceTV appears in the normal plugin list below Gmail Reader.

The unit has to be restarted to get the IceTV in place. Mine said this and restarted itself - now all happy

I think the 'experimental plugin' is the IceTV plugin installer.

Were you seeing something different originally? You mentioned before that you couldn't see "systemplugins".

Sorry about misunderstandings:
I could not see what looked like a IceTV Plugin. I could only see the 'icetv(3.0+ git 346410 Enigma2 is an experimental but useful framebuffer-based --etc)'
The descriptor did not read as if it was the iceTV plugin. As an amateur I sort of look for what might be what I am looking for and word "experimental" scared me witless.

Enigma2 is experimental but useful... Is a generic description that appears on a lot of plugins. It actually refers to the machine not the plugin

I think it has always been the description on the icetv plugin, but you don't see it if the plugin is already installed.

IanSav made the same comment about the DVD Player.

Note that a lot of the plugins appear in more than one place. The groups are tags rather than a folder structure.

The package descriptions are fixed in the current beta feed and should be fixed for the next (not current) official feed release too.
