U4 Timers disappearing

Post by desm » Sat May 05, 2018 10:39

[*]I use Ice for all my program recording but frequently I'm finding timers on my U4 disappearing, this seems to happen at random eg Nine News is set to record daily which it does and then suddenly it disappears all together, no completed timer listing just gone! As you can appreciate this is annoying because you don't know it's happened until you go to watch the recording and it's not there!
it seems to happen at random and isn't restricted to one channel etc.

Are you setting repeat timers on the U4? If so, then likely the timer has been deleted by IceTV. This is a known outcome of using IceTV whilst also setting repeat timers on the Wiz.

If you want to set repeats, either -
  • Disable IceTV, create the repeat(s), then re-enable IceTV, -or-
  • Create them as AutoTimers
Ice won't screw with either option.

HI Geoff, I'm having a bit of trouble understanding the purpose of auto timers, would you be able to give me a brief summary?

AutoTimers are definitions of EPG program title and description matches that you wish to have timers automatically created when met.
See prl's guide here - "A quick guide to Beyonwiz T series AutoTimers"
I find that it's easiest to use OpenWebif to add/change the AutoTimer definitions.

Thanks Geoff, I have to admit I’m beginning to question the benefits of using Ice guide, I haven’t used the FTA guides for years, presumably they’ve improved in that time!

You can still use the Icetv guide, without their timers. Just use autotimers. This is what I do.

Perhaps "using" should be read as "paying for". ;)

I too have just seen an IceTV set timer for a single show (not series) on 9HD apparently disappear from my U4. The IceTV My Week page indicates that the timer was passed successfully to the PVR.

IceTV definitely has an issue with single timers disappearing. I suspect it happens if there's a time change - that's a suspicion without any proof or evidence to back it up. It's happened to me on numerous occasions in the past.

I may be a bit confused here, but I believe it only affects single recording timers set using the mobile phone app. Timers set directly through their website interface are not affected. I could be very, very, wrong on this one.

** I have a T2, not a U4, but I believe it's probably the same problem.

In my case the timers were all repeat timers and unchanged times, most commonly it's happened with Nine News set up to record daily! After a suggestion in the Forum I've been disabling Ice before doing my weekly timer set up, only time will tell if this works. However it seems that this in effect means you are setting them using the FTA guide, which begs the question, do you really need the Ice guide?

IceTV really doesn't like repeat timers created locally within the PVR. I had all sorts of nightmares with IceTV deleting the timers I created for The Chase Australia.

The only workaround I found which worked is to create an Auto Timer, from within OpenWebIf. IceTV doesn't mess with Auto Timers. I was told that IceTV wouldn't mess with repeat timers created when IceTV was deactivated on the machine... it still deleted them. Auto Timers work.

I think that the timer that I had disappear was set from the What's on This Weekend email. Mostly I set the timers from IceTV web pages such as My Week, TV Guide, My Series and New Shows. Before this occasion I have had no other issues with disappearing timers from the U4, but I haven't had it that long to tell if there is any pattern. I haven't seen it on the T2, but that runs on EPGRefresh and autotimers.
