No Connection to IceTV Server

Post by Brainz » Tue Feb 14, 2023 20:07

Hi all,

It appears that the IceTV website is down at the moment. My internet is working fine otherwise.

Has anybody been in contact with IceTV to report this?

Cheers,
Brian

The DNS problem will kill everything. Hopefully this is some accident but it looks more serious.

Querying 52.64.127.90 (an IP address cached by an old host) doesn't help either.

So it looks like a deliberate move to take them off the internet rather than a server blowing up (or any similar technical outage that sounds less exciting)

Nightmare cock up from Amazon and auDA and our domain got taken down last night. Of course auDA work gentleman’s hours so no contact with them until 9am, Amazon are 24/7. Some ancient mistake in an ACN number for which I sent the documentation to explain and correct it and we were told by Amazon in an email we/they had until 14/3 to correct it, but some one f**ked up somewhere. Didn’t get much sleep last night awaiting communication between Amazon and auDA when they start "work".

Any helpful comments to the member’s explaining the situation would be appreciated and I’d hope we are back on line very soon. Jeez life is a nest of worms sometimes…

We are working on it now, sadly auDA only work business hours so we couldn't get it sorted last night when it first occurred.

IceTV has been aware of the problem since last night and they have been working on a solution overninght. Appratently there was a monumental stuff-up somewhere. Will post back when more is known.

Same here; could be that the DNS being used is yet to update. But IP address should work (unless it has been changed).

I have had no confirmation from IceTV that the problem has been fixed.

Ian

nslookup icetv.com.au
Server: 192.168.178.1
Address: 192.168.178.1#53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: icetv.com.au
Address: 52.64.127.90

That also demonstrates that its DNS lookup is working for me. My DNS server is my router, which forwards DNS queries about things not on my home network to my ISP's DNS server, dns.iinet.net.au (203.0.178.191).

However, IceTV still seems to be missing from some other DNS servers, in particular, if I force the lookup to use dns.google (8.8.8.8), the IceTV DNS lookup doesn't work:
nslookup icetv.com.au 8.8.8.8
Server: 8.8.8.8
Address: 8.8.8.8#53

** server can't find icetv.com.au: NXDOMAIN

I grabbed my phone this morning to see if the app would refresh the guide. It did. Hooray I thinks!
Jumped on the PC and the site was still dead.

Glad to see all the responses to my post overnight but not much joy with no website to look at.

I cannot ping IceTV.com.au nor the quoted IP.

I logged into the website on my phone through Chrome and am using WiFi from the same router as the PC.

Both my BWs (V2 & T2) claim to have fetched data in the last few minutes.

I've been updating windows 10 & I've cleaned Chrome's webcache, etc. but still no luck.

I've also tried the IP address (52.64.127.90) which resolves to: https://admin-customer.icetv.com.au/, which also fails with: DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN.

The IceTV android app also fails with "No Network Access" and then says that I need to D/L the guide, then back to No Network Access, then back to D/L the guide, whether I'm logged into my WiFi network or not.

I was considering changing my DNS provider to Google but a post here indicates that wouldn't resolve the issue.

Neither can I, but I have no problem getting the IP address from the DNS name, and I can load the IceTV Web pages on my Mac.

Some servers simply don't respond to the ICMP echo requests that ping uses, even though they're otherwise fully functioning.

Is your PC using a different DNS server from the devices that can access IceTV?

I added the following to my hosts file (Windows) and get a static web page:
52.64.127.90 www.icetv.com.au

Look like it will take a while for DNS changes to propogate.

I'm aware that DNS changes have to be propagated out from the main DNS registry but if the DNS entries have actually been fixed then surely auDA can push out the changes, rather than waiting for lower ranked registries, such as, Google, Cloudflare, etc. etc. to retrieve the updated records.

Unfortunately, I'm a dummy when it comes to networking stuff....

Everything at my place is using my ASUS router for DNS. Internode (TPG) is the ISP.

and back again, and gone again, and back again ....

Seems the DNS servers (using ABB until I go back to cloudflare) are still a bit flaky.

Well I guess I must be one of the lucky ones, as I've been able to access the IceTV forum and guide websites without any issues for the last 30 mins or so. Before that it was up & down, up & down for a while and before that inaccessible.

PS. I'm currently using ABB's DNS servers.

I can also report that my U4 & IceTv are correctly talking to each other as I made a change on the IceTV website that resulted in a timer being deleted on my U4 (as it should have been).

is there an alternative to IceTV, which would enable me to remotely records programs via an app?

i dont have IceTV in my plugin list on my T2, so i downloaded the IPK file and created a folder in usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions and saved the IPK file in /IceTV. but that didnt work either.

any ideas pls.

That should only happen if you deleted it.

Is it missing from the main menu (OK from live TV)?

That's not how to install plugins, and it's not where the IceTV plugin installs itself. It installs into /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/SystemPlugins, not into (/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions (also, in Unix-style path names, the leading "/" is significant).

If you really need to re-install the IceTV plugin:

First verify that the IceTV plugin is in fact missing.

Delete the files in /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/IceTV, and then delete /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/IceTV.

Then copy the .ipk files to the top level of a USB stick (preferably one formatted as FAT32; you can use the USB stick you use for USB updates for this purpose) using your computer, then "safely disconnect" the USB stick and unplug it.

Plug the USB stick into the T2. After a few seconds a popup should appear offering to install extensions. Select "Install extensions" (if there is more than one item in the list), and press OK. In the screen that appears, scroll to the .ipk files you want to install, and press OK to mark the ones you want to install (you can install more than one in a single run). Then press GREEN Install to start the installation.
