T4 HDD Replacement

Post by Trial_Master » Mon Jan 30, 2023 21:53

I still have the original ATA(WDC WD20EURX-63T) 2TB HDD. I am getting some intermittent pixelated and freezing on recording playback. I had my T4 repaired last year for the tuner issue.

What’s a safe bet for a replacement HDD? I don’t consume the 2TB so doesn’t necessarily need to be bigger.

There is some (more than somewhat out of date) information on AV class HDD on the oztoppy wiki: http://oztoppy.wikidot.com/replacing-th ... hard-drive

The difference between the cost of a 2TB rather than 1TB is not all that great. Amazon currently selling 1TB WD Purple for $60 (including delivery); the 2TB version for $92 (free delivery for Prime members).

Before replacing the drive I would attach it to you PC and run Western Digital Dashboard (https://support.wdc.com/downloads.aspx?lang=en&p=279) which will indicate the likelihood of failure. I still have 1TB and 2TB WD AV drives from 2009 and 2010 which are in almost perfect condtion.
