T3 HDD not showing

Post by Youngy » Mon Oct 09, 2017 21:38

My T3 HDD is suddenly not visible at all. It was working yesterday but tonight I got an error recording failed storage full.
When I went to Recordings I discovered the HDD was not showing.
Checked in the storage menu and no storage devices found.
Before I try a replacement HDD are there some troubleshooting steps recommended, I noticed some other references to PSU issues causing HDD not to show.
Thanks in Advance

Shut the T3 down to Deep Standby and leave it off for a minute, then start it up again. The hard-disk will hopefully be detected this time.

It may be a result of a problem that several units are suffering from in that the hard-disk can't be found after starting from deep standby about 50% of the time.

That particular issue is currently being investigated as far as I am aware.
Just out of interest, what is the version of firmware in your front panel, and have you had your power supply repaired recently?

Firmware 16.1
No PSU repairs, T3 has run well for approx 3 years no repairs.

What firmware is the Front Panel firmware, not the main firmware.

If the power supply hasn't been repaired then it may be on its way out like almost all other T3 supplies to date.

Sorry Front Panel 20057 I don't think I have ever updated that one.

Tried deep standby and now appears to be stuck at the boot screen goes through loading on the front panel to 100 flashes the service info banner but remains on the wizos splash screen

I'd recommend powering off at the wall and arranging for a power supply repair with either Beyonwiz or Warkus. This new failure sounds like your tuners are not working. Is the main menu accessible?

Check the power supply failure thread here.

While your unit isn't showing the typical mode of failure, I think the cause may be the same.

Best off powering down now to save doing any further damage I think.

Yes the Menu is accessible, suspect the tuners have now gone too. Nothing showing active in the bottom right.
Thanks sounds like a repair is required. Maybe time to upgrade to the T4

I'm having a similar intermittent problem with my T3 if I put it into deep standby.

I think it is actually a dry joint in the motherboard because the PSU is ok (I've checked the voltages) and changing cables and HDDs did not fix it. However, giving the box a few slaps and repowering it restores functionality until the next time the box is turned off.

Of course, I will send it to Warkus when I get a chance but life has been hectic lately...

Update: no problem with tuners - just the HDD.

If you are just seeing that hard-disk problem, then hang tight. I believe there is a fix coming in the form of software/firmware. It's definitely not a straightforward hardware/construction issue.

If your T3 starts from deep standby and doesn't detect the HDD, all you need to do is put the T3 back into deep standby using the power menu, leave it for a minute or so, then start it again, it should come back the second time.

I've been running my T3 in regular standby for so long that I'd never noticed the issue until I sent my unit in for repairs.

So masterly inaction is called for here. My motto is never put off until tomorrow something you can put off 'til the day after!

Fascinating that it's due to a firmare/software issue. Until recently I never turned the T3 off so that's why it's only been a recent effect. Also, when I switched it off I probably didn't wait long enough for the caps to discharge before restarting it.

FYI, we are talking front panel firmware not system firmware.

Testing on this issue on my part has been extensive, and recently linked to V20057 FP firmware, machines with earlier versions of FP firmware such as V20037 or V20038 dont seem to show this problem.

We are currently looking at ways to sort this... further advice pending...

Thanks warkus - mine is indeed a 20057 front panel so this would explain why I didn't see the issue early on.

Hello all,

I have the same problem with my T3 HDD not showing, I also have the V20057 front panel firmware model - has there been a fix for this or should I just send it to Beyonwiz to be fixed?

Thanks

The Beyonwiz expert repairer is Warkus (aka Mark). The problem as described to me by Warkus was not readily fixable when we last exchanged posts. Speak to Mark first before sending it away.

On a second (or third) boot the HDD reappears. Once it reappears don't use deep standby and the drive remains visible. Mine alternates between standby and on with no problems.

It can be fixed with a special downgrade version of the front panel firmware.

The downgraded version has the clock slip bug unfortunately, but that isn't a problem if the Wiz is mostly left in standby mode.

I have no idea if there is any proper fix in the works for this, or even if the downgraded version is available for public release.
