T4 Start up problem

Post by Oigle » Sat Sep 30, 2017 12:30

Hi,
Can someone please point me to how to troubleshoot startup problems with the T4?
My T4 will not boot up.
It shut itself down a week ago, whilst copying recordings from internal drive to USB. It successfully copied 2 (or 5) video files and the meta-data files for the others. Since it shutdown, the T4 will not start up. Tried switching it off at the back, leaving it off for over a day, as well as On and Off a few times in succession.
When I switch it on, it immediately makes a faint ticking sound (every second) but nothing happens. There is nothing on the display, no lights, nothing.
fyi - I also just sent a support request to Beyonwiz Support but given its the weekend, I'd check to see if someone here can help.
Cheers. ...Oigle.

Sounds like a hard drive failure with the noise you are hearing.

Did you install the drive yourself?

But that may not be the root cause. The T4 can boot without a HDD, so it may be a dead or dodgy power supply that can't start up the motherboard and isn't properly supplying the HDD, and possibly not the front panel display, either. It must be powering some of the front panel, or it wouldn't be starting enough of the power supply to spin up the HDD.

It's very unlikely that the HDD is the problem. It's more likely that the power supply died. To keep safe, unplug at the wall and get it repaired.

Thanks for that. I installed the hard drive myself 9 months ago from a bare bones device which all went pretty smoothly.
Is it worth unplugging the hard drive, to see if that makes any difference, considering the unit should be able to boot without the drive?

The fact that it doesn't boot even with the failed HDD is the reason why I (and possibly also peteru) believe that the HDD issue is a symptom of the problem, not its cause.

Cool. I will unplug it and wait for Support to reply to my request. Thanks for your advice.
