New T2, no sound from S/PDIF port.

Post by Fester1952 » Sat Aug 26, 2017 16:39

Have just received a new barebones T2 today to replace my dead T3. Set it all up, everything is OK other than I get no sound from the S/PDIF port. Tried different cable, no go. Cable is fine from my T4, so it is not a cable problem. Before I send this thing back has anyone got anything that I may have missed?

What device is receiving the audio? There is one or use who was having an issue with their T2's optical audio to their amp. That being said, I can't see that there would be much difference between the T2 and T4 optical, so it might just be hardware you say.

It's a LG 5.1ch 3D Blu-ray Home Theatre System, have no problem with any other device connected to it, Foxtel, T4 and once the T3 (until it went belly up!) and Apple TV. I can see the red glow if I open the flap on the port. The user having the issue you don't know if he found a solution or was it a faulty unit?

Hi Fester1952,

Is digital output enabled in the audio settings?

Regards,
Ian.

Hi,

I don't have a T2. My T4 is dead so I don't have a Beyonwiz T Series connected to my home theater amplifier but I seem to remember that enabling the downmix options may have disabled the optical output.

Regards,
Ian.

The only downmix option that would have an effect would be the AAC downmix option. Disabling AAC downmix will cause AAC to stop working at all, much like it does with HDMI connections.

As long as your amp/receiver/audio device is capable of decoding Dolby Digital signals via optical connection, then changing the downmix option should not affect the ability to receive audio.

Fortunately the most compatible option is enabled by default (downmix set to on).

Just to be sure, I did just verify that with my T4 and optical connection to my amp.

Hi,

Thanks for testing this out. Until Jai gets some replacement T4 motherboards I will be unable to test or confirm anything on my Yamaha home theatre amp. (Unless I can test it with my trusty DP-S1.)

Regards,
Ian.

Did the same on my T4, disabling AAC downmix had no effect on the audio signal.
Have tried every audio option on my T2, but sound is dead.
To me looks like a hardware problem.
