Technical Problem

Post by cinquina » Thu Mar 30, 2017 00:30

I have a T3 purchased about 3 years ago and I started to have technical issues tonight in that channel select got stuck and wouldn't change.
Rebooted to get going but then trying to record from more than I tuner reported clashes
Tried rescanning but told me tuners not set up
Tried resetting factory settings unsuccessful
Tried to upgrade to latest firmware but stuck on uploading 100% and went no further
Now turning unit on boots up to 100% and stays there.
Any assistance would be appreciated
Tag underneath says T3 07-2014-00175

Further issue now is that in restarting the power, gets stuck on "beyonwiz-T3" and wont budge, seems something not quite right?

It sounds like your T3 has lost its tuners.

You would get timer conflicts if the T3 couldn't find enough tuners to make all the required recordings on.

The fact that the T3 is stuck on 100% on boot, seems to indicate that it has booted up completely, but since it lacks tuners, it can't make the transition to live TV. Does the MENU button still work at this point?

It might be a sign that some components on your motherboard are failing. Lots of T3s started dying around October last year due to ageing regulators (and possibly some capacitors too). In most of those cases, it manifested as a failure to boot up properly though, with the message "Beyonwiz-T3" showing on the front panel.

I think it is unlikely that all of your tuners have failed simultaneously, otherwise I would advise you to open up the T3 and try re-seating them. Since they are all seemingly dead, I don't think that will help in your case though.

You should probably contact Beyonwiz to arrange a repair.

If you are in WA, then you may also consider contacting forum-user Warkus who can affect repairs too.

Ahh, that's your answer then. I was a bit slow with my previous reply.

Definitely get it repaired.

Thanks
Is it normal for these not so inexpensive units only last 2-3 years?

Not really. It was a result of a bad batch of components which is why so many units failed at the same time as each-other.

Typical electronics failures follow a bathtub curve where you see comparatively more early failures due to bad components, fewer failures for a few years, and then lots more failures many years down the track as the otherwise-good components start wearing out due to extended use. In this instance, I would say we are looking at an extended "early failure" type of curve.

I'd say that "more normal" would be 3 years for the odd one or two units to start failing, and then 5 years would see more needing attention as they hit the start of the wear-out phase.

All electrolytic capacitors have limited life. Depending on their quality, circuit design and environmental conditions, that life can range from 3,000 to 100,000 hours.

I realise this is an old thread. I have a T3 and within 3 years it exhibited the same symptoms in that it would not fully boot up or only sometimes. I opened up the case and you could see 3 or so electrolytic capacitors in the power supply that had bulged. I replaced these and a few others that had not bulged but were running hot and thus candidates for future problems. No problems since.
