T3 Problems

Post by Brians » Sun Apr 10, 2022 00:17

Programs that are recorded with 9Go are not recording properly.
Other channels are working fine.

My wife likes Young Sheldon & it is not working properly.
There is a recording but the timing numbers are not correct, it appears that it isn't all there & attempting to jump forward or fast forwarding doesn't work properly.

How can I troubleshoot this issue?

I just checked & the firmware is Version 17.5 Build 20180417 Revision 20180417

One Young Sheldon recording was all there but...

She could only play it through start to finish without any fast forward or jumping so she had to keep the adverts in.

The counter on the front of the PVR & the bar graph at the bottom would jump wildly up & down in numbers & the bar graph would jump all over the place as it played - low number, high number, low number, ending number...

Thanks,
Brian Symons.

I had that problem with a couple of movies (haven't recorded much else): Scoob! I put up with, but The Revenant I remuxed (haven't watched it yet, but it seems okay).

While there are no guarantees that it will fix it as it may be a reception/antenna problem the first step would be updating to the latest release firmware. There are so many changes and fixes since yours that it should be worthwhile and also help with trouble-shooting.

You can download it here viewtopic.php?f=45&t=14964

I cannot recall if it needs a fresh install or if you can save and restore your settings though someone else can comment unless you want to just go ahead and do it.

A settings backup that was taken using a 17.5-series firmware can be used to restore from after a firmware upgrade to 19.3-series 20211010.

Try this as a test on the T3 -
Use the Plugin browser to download the "reconstructapsc" plugin. Once downloaded, restart the GUI.
Open the media selection list and select/highlight the recalcitrant Young Sheldon recording (even if it's in Trash).
Press MENU to bring up the Movie List Setup popup.
Scroll to the "Reconstruct AP/SC ..." entry and press OK.
Press "2" to execute the "Reconstruct the .ap and .sc files ..." option.
Press EXIT to go back to live TV.
The action happens as a background task; a "Reconstruct AP/SC is finished !" prompt will appear once the task has finished.
Open the media selection list and try to play the Young Sheldon recording.
See how you go.

If that fails, install the "FFremux" plugin that adoxa linked to and try to remux the recording.

Turns out the timestamps within the TS file were being prematurely reset, with the resulting duplicate times causing the issue. Here's a plugin to fix it ("mips" for the T series and "cortex" for the U4/V2).

Hi,

I own a T3, and I'm looking for a way to rebuild a few ts.ap files. The above plugin seems to be what may solve my problem.
How do I install this? The 'Download plugins' button in the plugins menu reports 'no new plugins found'? Is the server still active?
Can the files be unzipped and copied directly to specific directories in the linux directory structure?

  • Download the above mips file.
  • Put the file in the root folder of a FAT32 formatted USB stick.
  • Plug USB stick into T3.
At this stage you should be prompted if you want to install the plugin. If that is not the case, you can use the File Commander (main menu, rightmost column, Sources / Files) to locate the plugin file and install it.

When you are done, use the SimpleUmount plugin (available from main menu, leftmost column) to unmount the USB stick, before removing it.

Thanks Peteru,

Unfortunately, no prompt to install when USB plugged in (just a message saying no playable files on this media).

I can see the files in File Commander, but no button to install? Can just move, copy delete or rename files. Which directory to move them to?

Thanks for the advice...

Looks like I'm running Image V16.1.

To avoid an upgrade process, can the plugin be copied or installed on this version?

It's unlikely, but perhaps not impossible, that it would work. It really depends on whether the plugin code is backwards compatible with such an old version of the firmware. I was going to say that adoxa will probably know, but I'm pretty sure that the 16.1 series firmware predates the plugin by many years, so even he may not be able to tell. I don't think adoxa ever had a 16.1 SDK installed.

Having said that, if you do try to install the plugin and it is not compatible, you may end up with a system that constantly crashes and the only practical fix at that stage would be a complete firmware reinstall from USB. You might want to prepare for that eventuality.

I can't quite recall the details, but I think that I also ended up fixing up some bugs in the underlying C++ code that does the reconstruction. That would have been in the 17.5 or 19.3 firmware series, so there's that too...

I think it will work, as it should be pretty standard.

What do you mean by "see the files"? There should be one file, which is the .ipk. Press OK on it, then Install. If you have shell access you could run createpts /path/to/*.ts manually.

OK, Thanks for the info. I might try an upgrade.

Is a new bootloader needed for 19.3 (I think I have 20150312 currently)?

Can I backup settings on 16.1 and restore OK on 19.3 ?

Hi Adoxa,

I can see the .ipk.zip file on the usb. When I select this file and press enter, it shows the contents of the zip (control.tar.gz dir (control.tar file), data.tar.xz file and debian-binary file). The selections enable me to unpack to current folder or media\hdd\movie

Rename it without .zip and you should be good to go.

Upgrading the firmware should work, but I'm afraid you'll have to redo your settings from scratch.

That is the latest public release for the T3. You should be good with that one.

Unfortunately no. Too many things have changed since 16.1 and the old settings backups are not compatible without manual editing.

I've renamed the file to .ipk and there is now in 'install' option. When selected, it reports 'install successful'.

After reboot of the box (and restart GUI), I can't see the plugin in the plugin menu or the 'movie list setup' menu?

Select a movie, press MENU, and you should see "Reconstruct PTS...".

Sorry to say unfortunately not. I can see every other option (that was there before), but not 'reconstruct PTS'.

It seems the plugin may not have installed?

I would have thought pressing PLUGIN would say if there was a problem (that's been my experience, but maybe that was added later, too). It's installed at /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/ReconstructPTS/ (that's where you'll find createpts, if you're able to try manually). Maybe your firmware is just too old...

Some of the menu hooks have changed over the years, so firmware compatibility is the most likely cause.

I can't think of any good reasons to stay with 16.1, over upgrading to 19.3, except for the effort of redoing all the settings. That process can be made somewhat easier by taking screenshots of the existing settings so that is easier to match them on the new firmware.

I've extracted the files from the .ipk and placed manually into the directory structure advised by Adoxa, restarted the GUI, and the plugin extension is now there and functional. I've now reconstructed a few .ts.ap files and it works well!

I'll do the 19.3 upgrade when time permits.

I am a great fan of the Beyonwiz, and appreciate all the thought that has gone into the firmware functionality and GUI. Excellent work. I've had a T3 since 2014, and have done a few firmware upgrades and fixed the power supply a few times to keep it going. One of the best PVR's I've used.

Thanks all for your help and advice...
