HEVC (h.265)
does anyone know if there are any plans for the T4 to be able to play HEVC (h.265) video in the future ?
I can convert video from my gopro HEVC to H.264 of course but I just wondered if it will be supported in future upgrades ?
does the U4 support this video format ?

No, the T4 will never have the capability.drharry2442 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 15:34does anyone know if there are any plans for the T4 to be able to play HEVC (h.265) video in the future ?

The hardware lacks any acceleration for HEVC as the SoC in the T4 pre-dates that format. The CPU is just not powerful enough to decode HEVC in software.
Yes, in short.
There are umpteen different profiles and bitrates defined within the HEVC standard, but your camera's HEVC files should work fine on the U4.

Re: HEVC (h.265)
well I just bought a U4 and no luck playing the videos from my GOPRO.
i have also had problems with playing back recordings made through HDMI in but I managed to get that to work by going into AV settings and changing to automatic resolution but nothing I have tried works when playing the GOPRO mp4 files.
they were recorded at 2.7K and 4K and they play fine on my 4K TV if I bypass the U4 and play them direct.
Anyone got any ideas. It does say on the U4 box that it came in that it supports H.264 HVEC so if it does not then I am clearly entitled to a refund but it would be nice to get it to work.

Re: HEVC (h.265)
The U4 does support HEVC h.265, you are mixing your codecs there, so you might be jumping the gun there by questioning that.drharry2442 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2019 16:48they were recorded at 2.7K and 4K and they play fine on my 4K TV if I bypass the U4 and play them direct.

But if you want help here, the best first step is to post a MediaInfo report of one of the files here so we can see what encoding, etc GoPro is using.
If you haven't got it already, just google and download MediaInfo to do this.

As per peteru -
"AVC is supported up to Main Profile, Level 4.2."

Re: HEVC (h.265)
Will first thing is that is AVC, not h.265/HEVC.
And the train it won't pay is that it is AVC high profile which is not supported by the hardware unfortunately.
See here for a post from PeterU.
Can you select alternate encoding options on the GoPro?
Edit:. Beaten to it by GG (damn text entry on phones!!)
