I'd this a recording or another media file. Recordings Rewind ok for me, but other media will not. Not sure much can be done about that.

This is on a recording. I will do more testing today but maybe I "upset" the machine when it was recording the show!
It may be just the one corrupted file. More testing required at this stage.

Done more testing. This may now be in the wrong Forum?

Most but not all T4 recordings have this problem. A recording from SBS works fine, fast forward and rewind no problem at all.

My process:
I fast forward eg x128 to the end and then rewind. It rewinds initially but then locks up with that "sun" type thing flashing.
I then have to power reset. Buggy software?
I wonder if it is something in the incoming stream from the provider or maybe a hard drive issue.
The T4 will not let me check the disk "cant forcibly unmount /media/hdd !! The drive is a few years old, ex my PC and T4 formatted.

This forum is just for test posts, so yes, not the best spot for questions. A mod can move it though.

FF and REW are a bit patchy on the T series in general (REW particularly and more so on non-recorded media). You'll probably find skips are more convenient. Not many of the PVR veterans use FF/REW much.

That's not to say that broken FF and REW functionality should be excused though :). Just that it might not have been noticed since not many are using it.

You need to disable timeshift if you want to be able to check the HDD. Set MENU>Setup>TV>Timeshift settinge>Automatically start timeshift after to Disabled, and then change channels (otherwise timeshift keeps running on the original channel).

Having debug logging being written to /media/hdd will also prevent a HDD check, but I suspect you don't have that set up.

Thanks guys,
I had already turn off Timeshift but now coming back to it the check disk works. Must have changed channel, thanks for that.
Displayed 25/100, 50/100, 75/100 then bang all finished and back to menu without any OK message, so I guess HDD is good!
On bootup T4 shows 2015-06-15 so I will go looking for updated f/w. The current f/w came on the thumb drive just before Christmas with the T4.
If this doesn't fix it then I guess its a phone call to Beyonwiz as the machine should not lock up.
Feel free to move this to a more suitable Forum! I didn't really expect a reply but thanks, much appreciated.

Maybe a Mod could move all this?
More testing done on T4 recording Rewind problem.

On "rewind" the video will stop/pause (sometimes lockup) when it encounters an advertising logo.
This will be a TV show logo or advert logo
Examples I found:
Morning Show logo
Ramseys' "F" (France) logo - don't ask, no idea!
Cash Cow logo
Nubco logo
Stocking Shed? logo
Gloria Jeans' Coffee logo
Tero Portraits logo
Family Feud advert
etc etc. Need I go on?

Strange but when the "rewind" pauses on these logos the pressing of the "step back" button re-engages the "rewind" until the next logo!
I tested WIN, TDT, SCTV and SBS
What a surprise SBS worked fine..

Now do you think this is sufficient info for someone at Beyonwiz to look at?
This must mean something to someone who knows what is in the channel data stream!

It has been moved from Test to General, probably fine here until it is a fully confirmed bug.

It'd be a good question for one of the gurus. An odd one indeed. I wonder if it is being triggered by a sudden drop in the bitrate of a recording. I am guessing that nice static single-colour full screen logos will result in a significant drop in the bitrate. I'll see if I have a recording with something similar in it and give it a test.

Sorry, I never did. But shortly after this post, PeterU mentioned that there was an upcoming update that introduces a new version of GStreamer, the video playback framework that powers the T series.
It was mentioned that it may help with a skip-during-FF issue that was ocurring, and by extension I guess it may help this behavior too.

I was going to wait for that update before testing any further since it is likely that this will render any tests done now as invalid anyway.

Thanks MrQuade,
It just happened to my wife on F.FWD of a TV recording. The T4 locked up with the loading symbol displaying.
I had to power cycle to recover.
Lets hope the next update will resolve this problem. This is the one thing stopping the all important wife approval!

Just curious Gary but is this happening on HD recordings or on SD or both?

I rarely use the FF/REW now since programming the number keys and up/down/left /right as skip keys. However, the media player can freeze video on HD video playback if you skip. I am hoping the GStreamer update will fix that bug too.

OK thanks Gary, been distracted by other things.

There is another bug that affects HD skip in media playback, mostly on SBSHD. It crossed my mind that the affected recordings may have some common characteristics. Apparently not.

Peteru has advised that an update to the GStreamer plugin is planned but is still a ways off.

Most of us use programmed time skips to jump over ads, etc and these work well with normal recordings. Might be a better experience to convert to skips.

With the up/down option active (Menu-setup-system-button settings) we use +/- 30 secs on left/right and +/- 90 secs on up/down.
For numbers 1/3 its 15 secs, 4/6 30 secs and 7/9 240 secs.

These are just an example - you can set your own if you choose. Note that a long press of left/right brings up the seekbar. I'm not a fan of the seekbar but it is useful if you want to move a long way back or forward.
Regards
Paul

I hope the update does fox the rewind problem. Interestingly enough I have not encountered rewind problems with recorded shows, but when I watch videos from NAS I can not basically rewind back using any of the buttons - either << or <<| .

Is that something that can be looked at?

Many thanks
