AutoTimer help needed

Post by netmask » Tue Nov 11, 2014 15:17

I would like to set an autotimer from scratch and preferably from my PC. I don't have an attached or WiFi keyboard for the T3 and the remote control is just too hard for my eyesight and finger navigation these days.

On ABC1 or 2 they sometimes run old movies from the 1930/40's - I'm after a Fred Astaire movie " A Damsel In Distress 1937" the date is important as there is a movie of the same name circa 2011.

The only available DVD of it is a French release.

So I would like to set an autotimer to do a search on this title on the ABC1 or 2 at anytime or day.

Pity you can't write a script to do it and upload it to the T3. More than happy to get into the T3 config files and do and edit if that's possible. Just so that I don't have to try and do it via the RC :(

At the risk of not actually answering your question....
Is this the one you want?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Damsel-Distress ... n+distress

I can't guarantee that they deliver this one to Australia, but I went through the checkout and it didn't throw up any red flags. I have definitely successfully had some DVDs delivered from Amazon UK before.

probably easier than waiting on the off-chance for the movie to show up on TV.

The autotimers do not have a web interface as far as I know, so if you wanted to set one up, it would have to be from the T3's GUI.
You could plug a regular USB keyboard into the T3 and use that instead of a wireless keyboard if you still wanted to do it that way.

Thanks for that. I looked on Amazon US, DE and a few other sites but not UK. I've even imported a rare movie from a small record shop in Prague! Actually got here quicker than Amazon US . I'll check with my friend and see if he wants me to import it. Thanks again. I will rustle up a spare keyboard and try it as an exercise.

The in-principle way to do it is to copy /etc/enigma2/autotimer.xml from the T3 to the PC, edit in the Autotimer you want, then shut down the T3 GUI by running 'init 4' in its command-line interface (if you have a command-line ssh on the PC, you can run 'ssh beyonwizt3 init 4' on the PC). Then copy the modified autotimer.xml back to the T3, and restart the GUI with 'init 3' (or similarly via an ssh command).

The shutdown/restart of the GUI through the back door is to ensure that the GUI doesn't overwrite your changed /etc/enigma2/autotimer.xml when it shuts down normally. A GUI restart is needed anyway to get it to re-read autotimer.xml.

There's no documentation of the autotimer.xml structure other than the plugin source code, or what you might work out by experimenting with setting AutoTimers and examining the autotimer.xml file :(

For a small number of uses, it's probably less effort to use the RC.

Are you aware it was on ABC less than 2 weeks ago (29th October)?

The 4.3 series firmware has a web interface for AutoTimers. It works, I used it just yesterday to setup a few.

The firmware version there (4.2.20141004) suggests you're running 4.2 series firmware, as does the firmware date.

The latest public beta is 4.3 series: beyonwiz-4.3-beyonwizt3-20141103

Ah yes - haven't been following the Beta thread, will take a look. So the web interface you mentioned, I assume provides an on-screen virtual keyboard? It would of course be great if one could do it from one's actual PC but it doesn't look like WebIf is ever updated?

The Autotimer web interface provided in the 4.3 firmware is a web page you access from your "actual PC" - you don't need a virtual keyboard, you just type into the input fields like any other web page.

In a browser enter beyonwizt3 as the address. If that doesn't work just enter the IP address of the t3. You can get that from Menu>Setup>Information>network.

If you enter the IP address at the moment that's how WebIf is launched....

This is what I am referring to: At the moment when you click on autotimer on the WebIf remote nothing happens, I'm sorry I am the type of person who "too much information" does not apply - I like to know the specifics spelt out, so is this referring to an effective update to WebIF so that the autotimer button works, ie it brings up am interface where one can type on the PC the details you want? or what ?

There does seem to be an issue, but I'm not sure it's you :)

The fact that Autotimers is supposedly now working in the 4.3 firmware and it does nothing for you when you press it implies that it isn't working in 4.2.

But it works fine for me and I'm running 4.2.

So maybe I'm just lucky.t

And to answer your question, it is an update to WebIF.

Maybe browser dependent? There have been other bugs in webif that were present in some browsers and not others.

I thought that, but I can get it to work on IE11, Chrome and even Safari on my iPad when I use desktop version (its not in the mobile version).

Let's just go with me being special and leave it at that. :D

I just tried it and it works :D

However prior to 4.2.20141004 it didn't work for me.
I updated to 4.2.20141004 yesterday but didn't retry autotimers in WebIF.
So I guess there was a problem prior to this non beta firmware?
I haven't ventured into the beta firmwares as everything except for autotimers on the PC has worked for me.

Thanks to everyone.
