Hdd Free space?

Post by belly75 » Wed Sep 24, 2014 22:22

Is there any way to tell what is taking up all the space on my hdd?
I have a 1tb hdd (976.76GB) showing 253.08GB free space. I do not have many recordings about 50GB and nothing in the trash can. How can i find out whats taking up all of my free space?

Cheers

I think i might have found whats taking up my hdd space. There are 100's of files in my folder "/media/hdd/timeshift" folder.
They are not visable in the "media" view but if i go into "Sources/T3/timeshift" there they are. Is there an easy way to delete them all, if safe to do so?.
I may have some incorrect settings for timeshift setup or perhaps just barking up the wrong tree.

The timeshift area is supposed to clean up after itself, though it's clearly not in your case.

First make sure that your HDD is formatted as ext4, not as NTFS. You can find that info in the Information section when you press MENU button while viewing live TV.

If your HDD is NTFS, you will need to move the data you want to keep somewhere else and reformat the HDD. You can then move your data back.

If your HDD is ext4, then we need to get more info to see where the problem lies and how to get it fixed. Start by attaching a copy of this file http://beyonwizt3/etc/enigma2/settings

You may need to use the IP address of your T3 instead of beyonwizt3 if your router DHCP server doesn't register the beyonwizt3 name in DNS.

my hdd is ext4.
At this stage i am unable to get the settings from my beyonwiz.
I can get to the Open Webif page but if i try the link you provided or using my ip adress instead of beyonwizt3 i get nothing.
Using Windows 7 and Billion BiPAC 7800VDPX. I have set my ip manually and have the same result. Will keep trying.
I tried to browse to the settings backup file on the t3 and i was able to select copy but when i move to another folder there is no option to paste. Foiled again :(

Sorry, my bad. I was typing it from memory and was half falling asleep :shock:

Try this instead: ftp://root:none@beyonwizt3/etc/enigma2/settings

The username and password are already embedded in the URL that peteru posted (the root:none@ bit).

If you need to use an IP address instead of the name, then the url becomes something like ftp://root:none@192.168.178.29/etc/enigma2/settings, but you have to put the IP address of your T3 in where I've put 192.168.178.29.

There's nothing in your config that sticks out as unusual or odd, so unless you are running some extra plugins that would interfere, I don't have any bright ideas. Here are my settings that are different to yours. My system has been running for more than 10 months without accumulating any crud in the timeshift folder.

Code: Select all

config.timeshift.favoriteSaveAction=savetimeshiftandrecord
config.timeshift.startdelay=3
config.usage.check_timeshift=false
From the screenshot you posted, it looks like all those timeshift files have been marked for deletion, but were never actually cleaned up. If I end up with some free time this weekend, I may take a look at what's going on there and see if there is a clean way of doing a cleanup on those old, old files.

BTW: Did you delete the IceTV configuration values from the config file before you posted?

yes i did delete the ice info because it had my email address and account number on it.
i have also managed to ftp to the folder using flashfxp there are 1299 files about 633GB.
I was tempted to copy them to the pc and then delete them, or perhaps just delete them, but im happy to wait to be sure.

After looking at the code, I think that the most likely scenario for having all those files marked for deletion, but being left behind is that your T3 was crashing on you a fair bit. Did you have trouble with it around 15th September 2014?

I need to understand why the T3 does the deletion this way (rather than just deleting a file when asked), but I guess it's probably a good idea to put in some clean up code to deal with files marked for deletion but left behind regardless of how the deleting is done.

I'm pretty sure that if you connect with an FTP client to the T3, you can safely delete any file in the timeshift folder that ends in *.del

As far as the T3 is concerned, those files are as good as gone.

I made some changes to clean up any orphaned timeshift files. This fix will be in the next firmware update.

thanks Peter,
sorry i missed your post regarding trouble on the 15th sept. i cant recall anything on that exact date but somewhere around that time i had to retune because they changed the signals in my area.
Also i have now changed settings to
config.timeshift.favoriteSaveAction=savetimeshiftandrecord
config.timeshift.startdelay=3
config.usage.check_timeshift=false
and no more files have appeared yet.

cheers
