V2 EPG Recording no loger works with 19.3 FW
I bought a Wiz V2 with external receiver from a mate a while ago, he never used it, and I was happy with it until I decided to update to the latest firmware. I didn't have it connected to the net until this week when I upgraded my LAN setup and I had a spare Ethernet cable to connect to it. Anyway, it downloaded the latest FW, and now I can't record from the EPG. I figured something went wrong with the download, so I grabbed the latest 19.3 from beyonwiz, I had to look up how to install it, but it's on there, and I have no idea what the previous FW was, I didn't think to check first. It seems to be working fine, but now I can't record upcoming shows from the EPG. Before, I was just selecting the show and hitting the green button to set up the recording, but now after I click add timer, it comes up with a blank record timer overview page that has a green add icon at the bottom. When I hit green, it just tries to set the current program of whatever station is currently selected. I tried reinstalling, but it's still not working. Not being able to record upcoming shows is a bit of a heartbreaker.

To quote the Hitchhikers Guide, don't panic!
I don't have a V2 but your problem sounds very much like corrupted firmware or settings. Over the years I've reflashed 8 different machines dozens of times snd sometimes I've had to do it more than once. Try again and do not restore settings.
The previous version isn't Important. The latest version should work the same when it comes to recording but it sounds like you didn't have a backup of the settings and haven't restored settings so it now has standard behaviour.
In the EPG, select a program, press record. Does a pop up appear with two choices: add timer and add autotimer? If so, does pressing green add a timer?
In the screen you describe, pressing GREEN should add the timer. If it doesn't, a reflash seems necessary as noted above.

Re: V2 EPG Recording no loger works with 19.3 FW
As requested, reinstalled FW and then figured out that it was the next small FW update that comes in online afterwards causing the problem. Looks like a simple Picon update or something, but it screws up the system big time. It also affects how the system talks to the network. Anyway, now every time I need to reboot, it comes up and nags me to update. Problem with that is I don't know if I'm knocking back a genuine update or not, although from what I can see, it looks like updates have dried up for this little box, which is a shame. Well worth the hundo I paid for it though, now that it's working. Thanks

The picon update shouldn't have that effect! It is a genuine update but not essential. prl (a major contributor who still updates the picons) may want to comment. You can turn off the notification to update in Menu>Setup>Software Manager>Configure update check.
Peteru, the volunteer who used to update the firmware, took on a new job that required him to cease his work on the wiz firmware.

I've never had any report of a picon update breaking anything in the system apart from the display of picons, and it's been a while since I've done a picon update that broke anything in the picon display.

Re: V2 EPG Recording no loger works with 19.3 FW
What ever causes the problem, the box works fine until after that final update pops up, and then the problems start. Now that I've reinstalled without that final update, the box works perfectly. Something is going wrong there, but given the last proper update, looking at the zip file, was in 2021, I'm not bothered about it. There is definitely an issue with PVR boxes in Australia though, there is nothing current and the Government does not seem interested in updating to DVB-C either. Which is unfortunate, because the rest of the world is at the very least on DVB-2 but generally on C.

DVB-C is Digital Video Broadcasting - Cable. It's not relevant for FTA digital TV. Do you mean DVB-T2 (Digital Video Broadcasting – Second Generation Terrestrial)?

I have updated my test V2 running 19.3_20211010 with the new picon package without any problems, shortly after it was released.
By the way, 19.3 is a family of firmware releases, it isn't itself a firmware release. There were 8 firmware releases for the V2 in 2021, and all firmware releases for the V2 were in the 19.3 series. Are you running 19.3_20211010?

That really doesn't help anyone work out what might be going wrong. You need to provide more information than "the box works fine until after that final update pops up, and then the problems start" or "it screws up the system big time".

Re: V2 EPG Recording no loger works with 19.3 FW
I have very little experience with this stuff, and I've never had to update until now, I downloaded the file from Beyonwiz, (beyonwiz-19.3-beyonwizv2-20211010_usb) wouldn't that be the latest? Also, I never said anything about "it screws up the system big time"? All I know is that the box only works if I don't use that last update. Not sure what else you want me to do or say, but you're making it seem like it's my fault?prl wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 08:51Mixedemoticons wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 07:59What ever causes the problem, the box works fine until after that final update pops up, and then the problems start. Not at all. I'm trying to get enough information about the problem to try to work out why the picon update only seems to be a problem for your setup.
What I'm asking for is a detailed description of what appears on your V2's screen and what actions you take that lead up to the system not working properly. And some description of how it fails that goes beyond "screws up the system big time".

Re: V2 EPG Recording no loger works with 19.3 FW
What are the chances they will release a new, updated FW? Or even a new, updated box? I'm guessing they've reached the end of the line here, in which case, for me, so long as I don't use that last update, the problem is solved. It looks like Paul_oz53's suggestion worked, and I'm good with that. Thanks anyway.prl wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 09:01Mixedemoticons wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 13:55Not sure what else you want me to do or say, but you're making it seem like it's my fault?

Zero. If a significant bug is found I'll put an update on my unofficial feed, but there won't be any official updates (the feed domain expired and was hijacked).Mixedemoticons wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 13:26What are the chances they will release a new, updated FW?
Zero. I'm amazed the forum is still going.Or even a new, updated box?
