Is there a difference between the T4 and the V2 HDD Format?

Post by gawaterman » Fri Jul 07, 2023 15:51

Replaced the hdd in my T4 and want to copy some of its contents onto another hdd to use on the V2
but when I copy from the T4’s internal hdd to a usb hdd it all works fine, but if I then plug that hdd into the V2 it doesn’t show up.
If I go Menu/Setup?Storage/File System Check, it sees the hdd type and size but it’s dimmed out and it says format unknown and you can’t see it in media, but if I plug it into the T4 it shows up as OK.
Works the other way too, hdd formatted on the V2 won’t show up on the T4. I have worked away around it by moving the files via my home network but that is sooo slow.
Are the formats different or is there something else wrong?

What kind of filesystem is the HDD formatted with?
And are the T4 and V2 running the same firmware versions?

They are both formatted in EXT4 in the Beyonwiz's and both have the latest firmware (I'm pretty sure but will check again)

Both firmware appear to be the same, (Release:19.3, Build:20211010, Revision:20211010, Enigma2:20211007-0-g815eca2, GStreamer:1.17.0 (GIT)
Python:2.7.17)
Just did a little experiment, formatted a 4tb drive in the T4 and a File System Check showed it as 4Tb, then put it in the V2 and it can up as unknown so then put it back in the T4 and this time it also came back as unknown. Something stuffs up when you move it from one to the other.

Are you properly unmounting the USB-connected HDD before unplugging.
Yanking it out without unmounting is not going to do it any good.

Will have to give that a go as I haven't been unmounting. Thanks.

Nope, that didn't work. If formatted on a T4 and moving to the V2 and visa-versa it always comes up as unknown.
If I plug in a usb hdd do I have to do a total power down before checking its state?

That shouldn't be necessary.
