Re: U4 hangs on booting....
Odd, there was just a report of the same thing happening to a T4.
Have you tried powering off completely for 20 seconds and trying to boot?
If that fails, a second attempt at the USB update?

Re: U4 hangs on booting....
Did you try another download to ensure that you don't have a corrupted firmware image?

Here are the hashes of the files if you want to verify the integrity of the downloads:

Re: U4 hangs on booting....
MD5, SHA1 and SHA256 hashes (or checksums) are values calculated from a file that can be used to check the integrity of the file without needing a second copy. They do the same sort of thing as a CRC checksum, but they are more robust.
The programs md5sum, sha1sum and sha256sum are programs that calculate those values for a file.
In that form, they're Linux programs. In recentish firmware, it's possible to run the MD5 hash/checksum on Beyonwiz PVRs from FileCommander (MENU>Sources / Files).

Re: U4 hangs on booting....
On Linux (at least KDE Plasma), it's as simple as right clicking on a file and selecting Properties. You can use the Checksums tab to paste in the expected checksum to verify the file or click a button to calculate the checksum.
I'm sure that Windows and Mac would have utilities to achieve something similar, even if they do not have integrated OS support.
Such checksums allow you to not only detect inadvertent data corruption, but will also indicate if there has been any malicious attempts at replacing the contents of the files. Of course, such detection relies on the published checksums themselves not being compromised. However, that's a separate problem. Publishing the checksums in multiple places helps.

Re: U4 hangs on booting....
For Windows I use Exactfile https://www.exactfile.com/downloads/. It doesn't appear to have been updated for some time now (my original setup for 1.0.0.15 beta is dated Dec 2014) but is currently advertised for use with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, or 10 and still works for me.
