Post by Dazzla_1 » Sun Mar 29, 2020 15:27

Good Afternoon I have tried 2 Different USBs and it still Happens" we tried to fix it before but I cannot find my post to refer to. There are 3 Attachments below If they will send yesterday they were a Little Recalcitrant to leave me

I load these usually recorded from my U4 and then play them on a Panasonic in another Room, But they only show a few files because the other stuff the dat files filled the USBs they won't Load the next time naturally unless I delete all the Files and dat files on the PC, and then the next time it’s the same again
Regards Dazzla-1 :)

Are you able to clarify or explain that differently? I'm really not sure what the problem is that you are describing.

My guess is that Dazzla_1 means the recording metadata files: the .eit, .ts.ap, .ts.cuts .ts.meta and .ts.sc files. If that's not what's meant, I'm as puzzled as you.

It's actually difficult to just copy the .ts files from within the UI. Even in FileCommander (MENU>Files / Sources), it "helpfully" assumes that if you want to copy a .ts file, then you want to copy the metadata files, too. Within the UI, I think the best that can be done is to copy the .ts files, then delete the metadata files from the destination. Pretty clumsy, really.

If that is what the problem is. ;)

I assumed he was talking about metadata files too. But I don't know what the actual problem is that he had with them?

Something about there being too many files and the Panasonic TV doesn't like that?

I assumed that the Panasonic was throwing a hissy fit because there were files on the USB that it didn't recognise, rather than just ignoring them. But that's really not clear.

Hi Dazzla_1,

The extra files matter to the Beyonwiz but aren't normally needed by other players.

If you sort by type on the USB drive you can delete all but the 'dot TS' files. Hopefully, that will sort out your problem.

Thanks, I tried to get that Same USB to play in the SONY Bravia Smart TV this morning and it's showing "No File Recognised" it displayed the "Silver Sans USB" but nothing there to play?

Yet it worked fine last night on the Panasonic? So I took it back to the Panasonic and it worked fine

I'm pretty sure Paul means to use "Sort files by type" in Windows Explorer with the USB drive plugged into a PC (click on the Type column in the File Commander window).

As you say, there's no such facility in the Beyonwiz media selection screen (it doesn't even display the individual files of a recording), nor is there a similar facility in FileCommander.

This all seems to be down to a combination of the Beyonwiz GUI's insistence on always copying both .ts files and the corresponding metadata files, and your Panasonic's choking on any file extensions that it doesn't recognise (instead of ignoring them).

The suggestion is to delete all the files except the .ts files, because that may be what's causing your Panasonic to not play the files properly.

You may want to empty the trash as well, to make sure that the files are completely deleted.

If that fixes the problem, you'll need to do it each time you copy new recordings to the USB drive.

I don't know for sure that that is what's causing the Panasonic to not play the files. Its file play might be broken in other ways, too.

Hi Dazzla_1,

As others have said, I meant sort by type on the PC.

My friend has a Panasonic setup that is very limited in the file types it will playback. I suspect your's has a similar lack of capacity. For his I have to convert TS files to DVD format so he can watch them via his DVD player.

I think it can handle mp4 too but getting my mate to use it proved impossible.

If I were you I'd load the USB stick with a mix of mp4, mkv and avi file types and see what it recognises. You may have to convert the recordings to use the Panasonic.

At the extreme risk of confusing the hell out of the thread, one solution for the format problem may be to install adoxa's transcoding utility.
viewtopic.php?f=47&t=12458&p=166513&hil ... eg#p183367

If Dazzla's Wiz is up to date, this should be able to convert the .ts recordings to .mkv or .mp4 in a reasonably short amount of time, with the bonusus that when they are copied to the USB stick, the metafiles won't go with them, and the container format may be readable by the Sony TV too.

I think the metafiles will go with them: movie.ts remuxes to movie.ts.mp4 which copies movie.ts.*. In File Commander you could rename by appending 0, copy, then rename back; that won't work in the movie list (it renames the title, not the file). Removing the original extension is even worse, as that will copy the .ts as well: movie.ts.mp4 renamed to movie.mp4 copies movie.*; you could keep the dot (movie..mp4) or otherwise change the name.
