SMB file sharing Mavericks

Post by DavidW » Sat Oct 26, 2013 19:44

Hi

I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks yesterday and both my S-1's have stopped working on the network. I went into sys prefs/file sharing then options and the SMB option that used to be there in SL has gone in Mavericks.

Any one know how to fix this please

Regards

In Lion, Apple started using their own SMB server instead of Samba, and it demands a different authentication protocol from what the Beyonwiz uses, so the Beyonwiz can't connect. I think that the details are around on the forum if you want to hunt a bit.

The only workaround on Lion and Mountain Lion was to install a Samba-based SMB server. I used SMBup on Lion for a while, but then abandoned it in favour of a NAS. I'm not sure whether it works on Mavericks 10.9.

i was using SMBup on Lion as a work around, I can confirm it still works on Mavericks.

IIRC, there's an SMBup application installed where you configure access. I don't have it installed any more.
