Connecting DP-P1 to Windows 8

Post by armiller45 » Fri Mar 01, 2013 19:16

For a number of years my DP-P1 connected nicely to my Vista laptop via ethernet. Last week the laptop died and I now have a low end Toshiba with Windows 8 installed.

I've looked through the various posts but not been able to find anything directly related to my needs. The fact that there is very little mention of Windows 8 even makes me wonder if it's possible.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone could advise of the steps I need to take.

I read in a post where IanSav commented that Beyonwiz could not connect to Homegroup and that you had to enable classic shares in Windows 8 but I can't find where that is an option in Network & Sharing Centre.

Thank you in anticipation.

I forget to mention the firmware is DPP1-01.05.301. I notice that it's now up to 350 - I hadn't updated because I was following the principle "if it ain't broke don't fix it." Will 350 make any difference?

Hi Armiller45,

I would love to assist you but I have no knowledge or experience with Windows 8. If you have any questions or can list any of the appropriate networking options I/we may be able to help you make selection decisions.

I am unlikely to use this version of Windows as the UI and lots of the code is completely broken. I will be staying with Windows XP for as long as possible.

I would upgrade to the current firmware but if you are happy with where you are then by all means stay there. Should you have any issues then we will be suggesting that you upgrade as a first diagnostic approach.

Regards,
Ian.

Thanks Ian. You were a huge help when I first purchased the BW and I came to value your input greatly. Might hold off for a day or two and see if there are any Windows 8 people around. Because the Vista lappy died I can't get back in to see how I had it all set up and my memory has faded (a lot).

Networking wise Windows 8 is the same as Windows 7.

See here for my instructions on configuring Win 7 for the Beyonwiz.

Thanks Rockets. I think I've followed your link. Can you please explain to me where I find the settings from Windows 8 to use in the BW to authenticate correctly? Sorry if it sounds a bit of a dumb Q.

OK! Going back to square 1.

Windows 8 has been set up following Rockets link:
http://www.beyonwiz.com.au/phpbb2/viewt ... 2523#82523

I feel I'm still missing something!!!!

When I scan the network from Beyonwiz it cannot find any networked computers. Nothing has been changed (it previously connected to the Vista laptop) in the BW apart from various combinations of Username and Password (which I've tried in an attempt to connect to the newly acquired Toshiba with Windows 8) in the BW set up.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm quite happy to ring any Windows 8 people out there who can help and perhaps talk through a few things.

Revised instructions:

* Go to the Network & Sharing Centre (right click on computer icon in system try)
* Click on Change Advanced Sharing Settings - top left
* Under Private turn on network discovery, file & printer sharing, allow Windows to manage homegroup connection
* Under Public Networks turn on Sharing so anyone with network access can read & write, enable file sharing for devices that use 40 bit encryption, turn off password protected sharing
